Caught LOTS of fish...........Many 3's More than average 4's and a couple 5's........Nothing much over 5......

Caught enough walleye to eat a couple nights.......

Hammered some BIG northern Pike.........

AND did I mention, caught Lots of smallies on tubes........THANKS bassMan30 for the colors, sizes, etc,etc.........I did downsize a little on the tubejig weight, and that REALLY helped increase my numbers.

I took a greenhorn up there and my daughter, and BOTH caught decent numbers of fish...........my fishing buddy (Martinson) caught nearly 100 himself, my daughter, nearly 50, and me...........well over 150........AND I only fished 50% of the time, mostly because I was controlling the canoe and enjoying my daughter catching MONSTER smallies.

I'd be interested in detalis on what lures did well for you. I am going to Boundary Waters in August, it will be my third trip there. We have always done well on curly tail jigs, jigs tipped with leeches, floating and sinking rapalas, and the top water bite is AMAZING on tiny torpedoes and zara spooks. What did you catch your walleye on? Last trip we caught them on eerie deerie and spinner rigs tipped with gulp crawlers, chartreuse curly tails, and I had one crank bait that did well, but I lost it. I think it was green back with gold sides. Was trolling it along a wind swept bank along the mud line. Also, a buddy of mind brought a bag of spider jigs. I think he had june bug and black colors. We did really well on those, will definitely be bringing some of them.

You've got it covered.

* We used soft plastic Jerkbaits about 25% of the time. sluggo type baits.

* The rest of the time, we used jigs and Tube Jigs........Natural colors......3/16 oz, 1/8 oz, and 1/4 oz.............The walleye will take the tubes and jigs like anything else.

* For the walleye.......they were caught while targeting smallies. My daughter did specifically fish for them a couple times, and caught them on Gulp and tube jigs......

I don't think I've ever used tubes up there, come to think of it don't know why we haven't. What color tubes? pumpkin, green pumpkin, fire tiger, smoke? how did you rig the soft plastic jerbaits? Worm hook with the weight on the shank or weightless? I bet a colors that resemble perch would work pretty good.

Pumpkin for the tubes, and WHITE for the jerkbaits........THAT is all you need.

Jerkbaits were rigged weightless........

My buddy and I are going up in 1st week of sept. My first trip his 2nd but last one was 40 years ago. Hope we don't end up being short fat OLD bear food. I have decided that after the bear takes a bite of me he will never bite another human (nasty brown taste). Great report Geo! I know the natives were please to see you throwing Berkley products. I'm pretty sure the Canadians are sponsored by Pure one...either that or they just love to say Berkley.

Did you throw any of your hand tied AP4000 jigs?

What was the concensus on CBO in your group? Are you going to try Laterells next time?

I downsized and used the AP2000...........smaller, lighter, but KICKED some BUTT with them..........

CBO was FANTASTIC........I may try Latourelles, but I've got to admit, CBO does the BEST job of ANY outfitter I've used so far........AND MadNat stated they were better than Voyageur on the EAST Side.......

With Regards to Voyageur......I really like them and they are 10 x better than Superior North...........I will use them for East Trips, which I will do quite frequently...........and CBO for Central......

Thanks for the info Geo. I will definitely bring some pumpkin tubes. I will post a report in August when I get back. What do you guys use outfitters for? We used them on our first trip, but have pretty much outfitted ourselves on the last two. We still use them for permits, but bring everything else ourselves...canoes, packs, etc. I think it save us money in the long run. Just curious though, are the trips still pretty cheap with an outfitter?

Sometimes we rent canoes...................most times we get an earlybird tow, use the bunkhouse, showers, and breakfast before the trip.........usually only owe the outfitter 100 bucks each, or something like that.......

I take my canoe on most basecamp trips, but lately, since I'm taking my daughter, and she is not a strong paddler, I've been renting kevlar canoes, which I can handle easier, if she is not paddling HARD.

It is one of the BEST places I have ever visited.............

The guy who went this year with me was 60, and he did just fine up there........He wished he'd done it 30 years ago.

I also took my daughter, and she also had a GREAT time.
