    Re: new to muskie, help?

    Thank, medicine man.

Thats great we usually put in at college hill between 10 and 11, and the guy at the cain pole also told us that was a good spot as well, so we'll deffinately have to continue trying that area. I know of the area in b ville you speak of, though ive never been there, ill have to do some map research and get to a ramp.

anyone else wanna help with some tips would be greatly appreciated!

Try mouths of creeks with large spinnerbaits. Have had a fairly good number of raises and a few hookups/ catches in these type of areas in a couple different pools.

    AJAt,
do you recommend in-line spinners like muskie killers and marabous or the other type?

Personal preference: Grim Reaper 1oz or a little larger spinnerbait, with a colorado blade up and a long willow leaf on the back. Inlines would probably do good, but have had all my encounters on that type of blade bait.

If I had had a topraider or some sort of bigger topwater, I would try that sometimes too. I have been down there when they have been coming up and slamming food on top, That is when I burn the spinnerbait right below the surface and hold on tight.

Those Muskie on the river are odd sometimes. 'Ideal Muskie' Weather and we don't raise a fish. But in the middle of a heat wave (It was 90degrees at a 6am launch), last day of July, Blue bird sky..... We had our best day ever, just a few years ago. So you never know. Good Luck.

I've fished above #10 for many years. Muskie actions was very good for awhile, but has been very poor the last 4-5 years. I liked twitch baits like a Grandma or a Shallow Raider around laydowns.

    Re: new to muskie, help?

10,000 casts. I should be getting close to 7,000 now lol.

Just back from our river trip. After driving 30 mins. to where the boat was parked in Waco, we found that the existing hitch (left w/ the boat) didnt fit the new truck. So we had to come all the way back to Irvine to get a hitch from home; which, thank God, fit the truck. However, we forgot to charge the battery for the trolling motor, so after waiting another hour or so, we were finaly on the river at about 9am... Needless to say, not very happy about all that. But its amazing how your attitude changes when you finaly get on the water isnt it?

We went down river towards Boonesboro on the way to a spot recomended by a friend, stopping here and there at stickups, laydowns, and grass. Shortly after cutting the motor while approaching the mouth of a creek, I saw my first river 'ski. Excitedly I tossed my bucktails, cranks and spinners around the spot I saw him for close to an hour before moving on.

While in that same location I noticed something I wasnt close enough to Identify. At first I thought it was a log... But it came from under the water standing up a good 2 feet out of the water for about 2 seconds before going back under... deffinately not a log. But there was no splash

Any Ideas as to what this could have been? In my oppinion it was too large to be anything but a catfish or muskie. Ive fished for catfish a lot but never seen one "stand" out of the water like that, and it was the wrong color for a carp. I dont have enough experience with muskie to know if they ever behave this way.

Anyhow... no muskie caught for us today. But since I saw one (maybe 2) that makes it a good day muskie fishing... right?

Off to Buckhorn with Muskies Inc. this weekend let you know how it goes.(We might spend more time taking notes than fishing... nah!)

It might have been a gar. The river is stuffed with them.
