First trip yesterday, before sunrise, fished a few of my favorite weed beds for gills and crackers, caught a few dink crappies, and a few gills worth keeping. At 0830, the water skiers started, so it ws back home to bed. In my old muddled mind a plan was hatched. I'll go tonight, anchor, put out my subermissable lights, and knock the snot out of some slabs!!!To quote Yogi Bera" should have stood in bed". This weed bed is close to the boat lanes.Well there were no water skiers, no jet skiers, but the rec boaters were out in force, plus the bassers. So it was waves, waves, and more waves. But that wasn't the problem, it was the stupid current, there is a current on dale, and normally it runs to the west, not last night. My port side bobbers went under the boat, so switched to starboard, a few minutes later, under boat. The crappies were there, small black nosed ones, most of them about 8 inches long. Said the heck with bobbers, switched to jigs.I do a lot of trout fishing with jigs, and I dremel the barbs down, since I dont keep them, who cares if they shake off. That was the box in the boat. But in my haste to slay the slabs, left my head light in the truck, tying small jigs, with a pen light in your mouth, on light mono is a feat! did get two keepers, lost a lot hits, no barb, and then it happened, got a small crappie into the boat and some students in students in stupiity[ must have been in the top of their class" come roaring by me, my nav lights were on,they just didn't give a spit, and the hook came loose right into the joint of my little finger, thank GOD it was barbless but it did smart. The other thing I left in the truck safely loacked was my pistol, if I would have had it, well who knows a good jury would have turned me loose.I like to fish at night, still will, but anchoring in a much more protected place on dale,I never had to deal with these kind of morons on cumberland at night, who says thegas prices are causing less boaters? So next week, at night, where ever, I will be there, but not anchored, and probably not armed.
