    Angry Breaking off jigs

I tried the Vicios brand of floro today and broke off 2 fish on the set. I spit on the knot (palomar) before cinching it down. Should I go to a heavier line 10lb is whats on there now or should I try another knot since it seems that is where they are breaking.
I started to have the same problem with the P-line Halo late last year. What do you guys recommend for finesse jigs as far as floro goes?

    Re: Breaking off jigs

I've only used Vicious once (last weekend) in a shallow lake, so I was flippin a lot of shallow grass with 15lb and didn't have any problems. I caught 8 with only one good keeper. That might change when I get out to some other lakes and fish deeper with rocks eating into the line. Did you notice if it was the knot or the line that broke? If the end was curled then it was knot. I do know that I had the same problem with Pline when I tried to fish jigs with 10lb. Others here have more experience with Vicious so maybe you'll get some better answers. Good Luck

After the 2nd break off I tied on a new jig and stretched it with my hands till it broke it didn't take much. I was pitching around some rocks but wasn't getting many casts between break offs. I did like the line seems to handle well.

I'm sorry, but I cant imagine anyone using 10lb flouro to fish jigs anyway!I use braid, and who ever says rocks eat it up, well I cant say that has happened to me. I use 15/4 power pro, and a 15 lb seagar leader. The only knot that braks on me so far is the joint between the braid, and the leader, and usually it takes some doing.

You really dont need to be tying polimar knot with smaller florocarbon...Especially on short, hard hook sets. The floro cuts its self on the hook set. I learned that the hard way with floro, I was snapping 17 pound bps floro like it was 6 pound. I guess we all live and learn.

I've heard a lot of people say the same thing. Not to use palomar with Fluoro. But in my experience the palomar works fine for everything. When I started using 15lb Fluoro (Pline) I rarely had any break off issues (and none from the knot failing that I can remember). I was pulling up logs with the stuff. If this Vicious line doesn't work out, I'll go back to the 15lb Pline and will still use the palomar. I just tie it slow, wet the line, and try to keep the lines parallel when looping, I read that somewhere and it seems to work. Just my 2 cents...

Hey Stoner are you going thru the eye of the jig twice before doing the palomar. It makes all the difference in the world. That line for sure.

many years ago there was a guy who specialized in big walleye, with light lines. He tied a knot he called the figure 8, still use it 95% of the time, on braid, flouo and mono. The other knotr is a palomar, but it isn,t the answer to all fishing knots either.

I guess alot of it depends on how hard you set the hook ....I ve been told Im somewhat on the freak side........ I ve snapped my fair share of xtra heavy rods.

Did not know that. I will definately try that the next time out. In the mean time I'm shopping for a heavier floro.
I did break off a jig this morning using P-Line 15lb CXX. I really don't care alot for that line but it works with the black light.

    Thanks for the info.

I've not broke a rod yet, but have nearly caused a guy to fall out of the boat.

That reminds me of a story on Taylorsville a few years back. I had thrown a lure into a tree and was trying to get it out when the rod broke. The guy I was fishing with was laughing his butt off. Then I said "What the heck are you laughing at, that was your rod". The laughing stopped. He forgot he gave me a loaner that day.
