WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Justice Department officials blocked liberals and people with Democratic Party ties from a highly selective program that funneled young lawyers into government jobs, according to an internal investigation released Tuesday.

A bias against liberals existed in a Justice program meant to hire young lawyers, an investigation found.

It found two of three members of a screening committee considered political views and experience when choosing new lawyers for the Justice Department Honors Program and Summer Law Intern Program.

Esther Slater McDonald, a political appointee at the Justice Department, "wrote disparaging statements about the candidates' liberal and Democratic Party affiliations on the applications she reviewed and ... she voted to deselect candidates on that basis," said the report by Inspector General Glenn Fine. McDonald, who has left the department, refused to be interviewed for the investigation.

The report, the first official investigation to document politicization of the Justice Department during the Bush administration, is an offshoot of the larger investigation of Justice Department politics triggered by the furor over the firing of nine U.S. attorneys.

What the heck is justice? Last monday pulled into a mac donalds on interstate 65, there were at least 9 cars full of folks not speaking english,all ordering food by an interpeter, and not one of them was wearing hand cuffs.Surely even if onlt 10% of these were illegal at a minimum,where was law enforcement? The government is only enforcing sel;ective laws, why do we even need a justice deptartment, if they themselves are breaking laws?

I'm more concerned with the fact that the people who are supposed to be enforcing the laws and ensuring "fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans" are themselves breaking the laws they are to uphold. Guess the fact that it was "liberals" being discriminated against makes it ok in your mind?? Bull. I really don't care what their party affiliation is, hire the best, most qualified person for the job.

Their mission statement: "To enforce the law and defend the interests of the United States according to the law; to ensure public safety against threats foreign and domestic; to provide federal leadership in preventing and controlling crime; to seek just punishment for those guilty of unlawful behavior; and to ensure fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans."

Guess they failed there. Another waste of tax payer money.
