In 9 trips I've caught 11 smallies 5 and up. If you don't digitally weight them, they'll fool ya. They're really long and wide up there, but don't carry the head and tail meat till the fall. It is even more rare to catch them up North as the winter is harder and there are more toothy friends to control the population. A 5 lb smallie up there is over 20 years old and pretty slow. They don't last long in lakes with large northern and muskie.

I'm not saying your lying or anything like that...no disrespect at all...just clarifying facts. I had one almost 7 on a spring loaded scale and that didn't count. That's like catching a 9-10 lber at Dale when you factor in the age.

Sorry guys I'm sick with those brown fish....it's all I think about until fall. I need to mix in a night trip.

Try Canadianhaven.com.It is on Lake of the Woods. The owner is Brian Wiggins and has been running this camp for around 10 yrs. He will make sure you catch fish and have a good time.Cabins are great and Rental boats are the best on lake for my money,Lund 18ft with Minnkota ,40hp,and fishfinders.

IT IS DEFINETLY A TRIP OF A LIFETIME! CANADA IS AMAZING! WE'VE GONE EVERY YEAR FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS TO THE QUETICO NATIONAL FOREST, JUST OVER THE BORDER FROM MINNESOTA AND THE BOUNDERY WATERS. THE WAY WE DO IT, IT USUALLY ENDS UP COSTING AROUND $350.00 PER PERSON. THE DRIVE TAKES ROUGHLY AROUND 17 HOURS TO ELY, MINNESOTA FROM LOUISVILLE. WE USED A OUTFITTING SERVICE CALLED "CANADIAN BORDER OUTFITTERS". THEY ARE GREAT TO WORK WITH! YOU CAN RENT YOUR CANOES, GET CHARTER SERVICES, BUY FISHING LICENSES, STAY IN CABINS, ETC ALL FOR A REASONABLE PRICE. WE ALWAYS ELECT TO TAKE THE CHARTER UP TO THE CANADIAN BORDER, WHERE THEY DROP YOU OFF WITH YOUR CANOES AND EQUIPMENT AT THE CANADIAN BORDER OFFICE (A LITTLE CABIN IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE!). WE THEN CANOE UP THROUGH CARP LAKE, WHERE THERE ARE SEVERAL EXCELLENT CAMPING SITES TO CHOOSE FROM. WE'LL MAKE BASE CAMP THERE ON THE NORTHERN TIP OF CARP LAKE AND MAKE DAY TRIPS TO THE HUNDREDS OF SURROUNDING LAKES! THE OPTIONS OF WHERE TO FISH ARE ENDLESS! AND THE BEST THING, YOU ARE ALL BY YOURSELF! 5-6# SMALLIES ARE NORMAL, 4-5# WALLEY ARE NORMAL, AND 40+ INCH PIKE ARE EVERYWHERE! WE ALWAYS GO EARLY IN THE SUMMER AROUND THE FIRST WEEK OF JUNE, THE FISHING IS INCREDIBLE DURING THAT TIME! ROOTBEER CRAWDADS, WHITE FLUKES, AND BEETLE SPINS ARE AMONG OUR MOST SUCCESSFULL LURES. MAKE SURE TO BRING TO FISHING POLES! IF ONE OF THE MONSTER PIKE BREAK ONE, YOU'LL HAVE A BACK UP! GOOD LUCK! IF YOU WANT ANY MORE INFO, DROP ME A PM!

WOW, another member from the area who uses CBO.......BassMan30 and I have used them a few times, and I've been REALLY impressed with them.

I've also done trips to Quetico and the BWCA from the Eastern end, using Superior North outfitters (NO longer in business due to Fire), and then Voyageur North Outfitters.

    Nice to hear from you.

    Later,
