    Ethics

    Hey Folks,

This may or may not be the place for this. I spent a great day yesterday fishing on the Ohio river. The spot we were try to fish is kind of narrow but we got up in there. Pulled our boat to the side of the bank two hunderd foot from running water. There was another boat in there but he was clearly fishing another spot back by our boat but on the other side. After about 1/2 hour they left. For about the next 2 hour we fished by our selves. Then some other people in 2 boats showed up pulled right in front of us well with in casting distance. Nothing was said all went well.
So today at work i'm showing my picture and was asked if i was down fishing in this spot and I said yes. Then person told how wrong I was for fishing that spot they had been fishing there for years and that hole was thier's. Then he let me kn ow that had he been down there he "would have thrown a plug at me."
Feel free to leave input here. I just wondering how this would turn off for some of you?

Since when does a certain spot belong to one particular fisherman. Not to my knowledge does it belong to anyone in particular. By all means fish anywhere you want as long as it's legal and you haven't invaded someone else's area at the same time.

If a plug would have been thrown, I believe the Law would be notified of the situation at hand....Better to call the law than pull out a gun and shoot someone over a fishing spot.....

P.S. you can let everyone on the board know of the spot and then we can all come along and fish his spot together.....lol

Nobody owns a spot. Attempt was purely to intimidate. Hurricane respose is always a smile, followed by "Don't tell me, show me next time I'm there", with a caveat of "I always escalate situations, you throw a plug at me, You will feel the 2 ounce Spro Jig when it hits" and "I respect your right to fish a spot, and will do my best to accommodate you, you try to intimidate me and I promise I will not back down under any circumstances, so you set the rules, and be prepared to live by your decisions". Then, shake his hand, look him dead in the eye and say "I love you man, be cool, cause I'd miss you when you are gone".

Aggression paired with affection confuses folks, I like that!

I have posted pics at the photo board. The spot is the place they call the duck pond. So far I have had more people than I can count tell me about a place called the duck pond. Watch the water level check yesterdays level. You'll lose a prop. If you don't know where the duck pond is then find the hydro go up that side towards the dam you'll see a rock wall out in the middle on your left side. Just ease up in there and fish were the water flows though the holes the stripers are in fast water.

    Re: Ethics

Personally this is a tough one, if the person in question actually showed you the spot then I would say stay off it, especially if they were going to be fishing there around the same time. A lot of people will say if they are not on it then it is free to fish, not sure I agree with it but it depends on the person who showed it to you and the respect factor you have with them.
If you find a spot on the lake out of the blue and it happens to be someone's honey hole...tough crap to them they don't own it, and I am sure someone sometime has fished that spot. just my 2¢.

Heard about it though the grape vine another person that I talked to was going down to fish it the night before. One of the 2 boats that showed up is the guy that showed this guy who told me about it. The guy that popped of to me is a friend of the boat guy.

To be very truthful I had already heard about this spot but had not been able to fish it. All he reslly did was tell me that the time was now.

    Re: Ethics

I have shown people spots on a lake before and if they are on it when I get to it I can't tell them to get off of it. For one thing they don't know when I'll be there. 2. I don't own it. 3. If I thought they were going to fish it I shouldn't have told them about it.

pretty well said,if you don't want somebody to fish a spot don't tell them, but somebody else probablly is hittin it anyways..me and few tourney buddies i have fished with over the years do it like this,if it is tournament day and we are all there we know whos is whos,we don't fish each others told places even if we aren't on them at the time.if we are just fun fishin alot of time we fish all the places together so we can yell a little...i love when people say man that's my spot...

    Re: Ethics

THERE ALL MY SPOTS AND YOU SORRY SACKS STAY OFF OF EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL.

Im a real hot head when its comes to this subject but only when someone pulls on top of where im throwing or trys to crowd me out,its a sickness i know but im working on it.Bud the river is full of folks who will just pull up next to you and poop on your boat.Ok not really but you feel crapped on.

O.k back to the subject. If someones in a spot i show them ill pull right up next to them, shoot the breeze and may pass a cold one.Because if i showed you a spot your a good guy and a friend. If i dont know you and your in a spot i like to fish-AKA-my spot-I say a few choice words to myself and go to the next one,no big deal.I will never pull on someone and cast all over them.its not right and i cant tolerate it done to me.

To move out of a spot i was in first because you showed it to me or you have river seniority lololollolololol, just plain aint gonna happen....
