    interesting comment

I was filling up my scion xb at the pump today (4.05 in central Illinois) when a guy pulls up on the other side in a Lincoln Navigator . He looks at my scion and says did you hear GM may file bankrupcy? I reply yes terrible situation to which he says well you helped make it possible. I was kinda at a loss for words for a moment. I am driving a foreign vehicle but I can't imagine the sole reason for the demize of GM is that. I also own a 32' 454 big block chevy motorhome and 5.7 hemi durango and 150 hp johnson that nowadays do a lot of sitting. Of course he didn't know that. I went and paid and came out and noticed a I support our troops decal. I told him at least we agree on one thing, to which he responds yeah this is my wifes car I don't care if we are there or not my kids not in the army. Ain't it great to be an american.....

IMO...GM's problem is greed and being behind the curve on new car designs. Ford and Chrysler/Dodge have been putting out better looking cars for years. That's not to say no other manufacture will escape the same problems but my opinion is that GM has had the "old blood" in house that would wait to long for change and got out manuevered by the others.
The fella you speak of sounds pretty ignorant but I have always heard that ignorance is bliss!

GM should have started making more fuel efficient cars ten years ago and they would not be in this situation today.

The trouble is that many people continued to buy the big gas guzzlers the last 5 years as they didn't know that gas prices were going to spike to high.

When gas hits $4.00/gallon people start thinking differently about getting better gas mileage in their cars and trucks.

Oil was at $145/barrel today and it's been climbing up each week over the last few months.

I saw where American Airlines is laying off over 7000 employees.

Things are going to get worse before they get better.
