Got a 2005 TR 196 Triton and have everything covered for $ 397.00 a year. But after conferring with the Insurance man, I dropped the amount on my boat some and now have it covered for $ 297.00 a year. I still had it covered for the (NEW) price of everything, reason it was $ 397.00

i have progressive ins. on my boat & auto's .i had to file a claim with my boat a few years ago i knocked the lower unit off . i didn't have a bit of trouble.progressive agent told the dealer i took it to put everything back in the lower unit new & had the prop & skeg fixed.i've got enough good lower unit parts that were not damaged to rebuild it again.i've also had to file a couple of claims with auto's with no problems there either.the agent even went to the boat dealer ship & checked to make sure they were putting in new parts.i've never had any problems with them.

I've been using National Marine Underwrites insurance and it cost 350 a year for my Nitro NX882. It also covers 3000 in tackle if stolen. According to them my trailer is covered by the automobile towing the boat. A local boat store recommended them. Anybody else out there have them or file a claim with them?

    Heath,
This is fantastic thread. Thank you for being persistent and getting the word out. For the most part, insurance is a joke....get the least the law will allow.

Unhappy Re: "Progressive Insurance" Repost...Please read

My only reason for posting on here is to let those of us with Progressive insurance know just how they are handling this situation. After doing all the homework on them the last couple of weeks, it's not looking real good for them right now.

I've taking my problem up the chain of command there, and I plan on fighting until I get a reasonable decision.

This "wear and Tear" thing that they seem to be using on several different people that I have talked to, (7 to be exact) is kind of a insurance for them. How could hitting a rock in the lake be turned down because of "wear and Tear".

I talked with a new person today from Progressive, and I'll keep everyone posted as to how they continue to handle my claim.

    Thanks
    Heath

P.S. Thanks to everyone for all the advise and replies.

For what it's worth, I have State Farm, and it costs me $125 yearly. Just to put it out there, I bought a brand new Tracker Pro Crappie in 2005 with a 50 hp mercury. Last summer the crank broke meaning that I had to have a $4500 engine rebuild. The dealer said that it was a defect in the motor. I did not have an arguement, because I had purchased a 5 year extended warranty and all it cost me was 50 bucks. This was the first time that I had purchased an extended warranty on anything, but when reasonable, I will have from now on.

Some follow up posts were deleted here....and will continue to be deleted whenever somone slams a business or individual and does not include in their post their contact information in accordance with board rules. So, if you have a beef with a business or individual and slam them here, then post your contact information or you are just wasting your time making the post.

Personally, I suggest anyone buying marine insurance should purchase their policy from a company that specializes in marine insurance. You will never know how good your service is going to be with any insurance company until you have a claim. I have had over 16,000 in claims over the past 6 years on my boat, paid immediately without any hassles...but I am insured by a company that specializes in marine insurance and has adjusters that are used to dealing with marine claims.

I was really not trying to slam anybody or anything only giving a real account and opinion of what my wife deals with everyday. I don't give a rats putu what insurance anybody buys that's their business I just felt I was maybe giving a heads up to some of the fellas. My contact information is on my personal page on this site and if PM'ed I will give most anybody on here my cell number, house number, work desk number, my wifes desk number, my home address, and my wifes cat if you want it. I'm not hiding I was just giving two cents it won't happen again.

To begin with I may be partial I work for State Farm. I cannot understand why Progressive would not pay the claim irregardless if a flaw or not. That is the very reason you carry insurance in the first place. ALL Ins. companies that I am aware of would pay the claim and then subbrogate(sue the other party mfg etc) to recoop the expenses but would take care of you the consumer. I am not out to put Progressive down because we all have nightmare Ins. stories myself included because in some instances we don't know all the facts. I shop on a regular basis for car, home life, boat,RV that is the only way to make sure we are competitive. I really feel that if you pay a little more to one company or the other but have a GOOD working relationship with your agent it will make all the difference in the world. Your agent is your mouth piece to the company he/she can do far more than you can on the phone so please sit down and drink a cup of coffee with your agent and give them scenarios that you have heard of or read on the net. Ask them what would happen if your boat came off the trailer at the ramp, lower unit kissing a stump @ 30mph because if they don't have the answer make sure they get one for you. That is why you pay for this stuff demand it or move on....My2cents

    Re: "Progressive Insurance" Repost...Please read

Thanks Joe, I asked my claims-rep. why they don't just cover this and go after the manufacture if this is what they feel is wrong. They said they don't do that.(not sure why myself)

Now they are sending someone out to look at it and determine what caused it to break. Let's see an insurance company paying someone to come out and give his opinion of what happened. He will be getting paid by the insurance company....wonder what he's going to say???

The scary thing about this whole thing is I'm very lucky my whole rig isn't scattered all over the side of the highway somewhere, and Progressive is telling me that "Wear and Tear" was the cause.....Sorry not covered.

Think about that guys, you carry insurance in case of a freak accident, and there's a good chance when something happens your S.O.L..

My advice to everyone is to learn from this and call your insurance company and ask them about your coverage. I don't want anyone else to have to go through this if they don't have to.

I'll let everyone know what happens.

    Thanks
    Heath
