State farm, two claims in thirty years, both paid instantly. The last a short in my wiring harness, the circuit breaker didn't work, almost 500 bucks, including the sonar. I didn't even think it was covered. By chance went to the agent after dropping my boat off to be fixed. He sais a fire is a fire, called the mechanic while I was sitting there[he also uses him], they talked for a minute or two, and then he tells me, sorry you will need to pay the 50 buck deductible, the rest is covered.

Well, I'm back and still no answer from "Progressive". They sent a Marine Surveyor to my house to look at my boat trailer. The gentleman that show up looked at my trailer and even said to me, "you had to hit a big pot hole or something to cause this to break". He also said he can see where the break has clean metal. Now keep in mind that Progressive is paying his salary and now he has to go do a report and send it into Progressive. Then they will contact me. (I filed my claim on June 23rd and still have no answer....By the way, my Progressive bill showed up today in the mail...right on time....imagine that.)

Jabbo, when my progressive claims rep. came to my house, he used the words "normal wear and tear." My trailer broke into...not one of the springs...not an axle....a wheel bearing didn't go out...the trailer itself broke.

I've had three different Marine Dealerships look at my trailer and they all say that they have never seen a trailer break like that before. So, can you please tell me how that could be called "NORMAL" if it just doesn't happen? I even had those people call my claims rep. and talk to them and let them know that this was not at all normal.....and still nothing.

How come a statement from people that have been working on boats and trailers for over 50 years (combined) means nothing at all? I can promise you that they have way more knowledge of boats and trailers than the surveyor that they sent out.

Jabbo, I can show you a list of 8 people that I have talked to that has had or have progressive now, and their claim was denied because of this so called "wear and tear." I also have a list of thirty something people that have Progressive insurance who I fish with all the time, who are waiting to see what happens to me. There are a lot of people on this site also that seem to be very interested in whats going to happen. This is the only site I've been on so far, but with all the calls and feedback I have received, I feel like I should get on all my other favorite sites and let them all know how this is being handled. (Ky Bass Federation...Ky Bass Fed. Nation....Renegade Marine.... Bass Boats Central....B.A.S.S.......FLW.....etc...the list goes on.)

Hopefully I'll know something soon......I'm now going into my 4th week without anything being settled. I'll keep everyone posted. Wish me luck......it looks like I'll need it.

I'll let everyone know no matter what happens. Please stay tuned!!!!

    Thanks
    Heath

Normal wear and tear. This is what I was told by State Farm on a battery that had a terminal post snapped off when I was in an accident years ago. A fool ran a red light on my way to the creek (boat in tow) and hit me in the left front wheel at about 45mph I was going about 15mph. My truck flew to the right and ended up at a 90* angle to the boat. Luckily he was driving a small compact and I was driving a full sized Chevy ext cab 4x4. His car was totalled but mine had minor damage. The jolt of the wreck pushed my battery to the side so hard it cracked my battery terminal inside. A week later I go to start the truck and find the post and cable is laying against the battery compartment.
My theory was that as the battery pulled to the left from the force of the accident the cable would not allow the movement so something had to give and that give was the cheap lead of the battery not the cable. You could easily see that the cable had almost no play. A woman at State Farm came out and looked at it and almost laughed at me when I told her my thoughts on the battery problem.
So I went in a month later after I found another insurance company and cancelled my policy. I had been with them since I was in High School (17 years ago at the time). I told them why and they said it's too bad but I was wrong on the battery issue. It ticked me off and I told her that I don't need charity but I do need an insurance company to stand behind me especially when I had only 1 claim in addition to this accident and neither was my even my fault.
State Farm did cover other damage and thats was the right thing to do based upon the coverage I had with them but to lose me over a $75 battery was crazy. I'm better off now. State Farm is fine in my book but I think my problem was a judgement problem by an adjuster who probably didn't know what a battery was even for. Keep fighting for what is right!!

Don, You are right.. The battery should have been covered in the scenario that you described.
Heath, I personally know all of the KY Adjusters. I'm quite certain that I know the adjuster handling your claim.
I do not regularly go and review claims with out need or consent.
That being the case I don't know all of the details of your claim.
Handling a claim can sometimes be a time consuming process, especially when there is a difference of opinion. I hope you understand that Progressive is trying to go the extra steps by allowing an unbiased marine surveyor to inspect your trailer.
You need not worry that we are paying his salary. We pay his fee for an unbiased opinion. You can even get a copy of the Marine surveyors report when it's finished.

All of that being said, I would love to see your claim paid and get you back on the water as soon as possible. I truly believe that Progressive is the best, most accurate, customer service oriented company out there.

I can't go and just start looking into claims that I'm not affiliated with, but If you'd like I would be willing to look into your claim to see if there is anything I can do for you.

Well, here we are now over a month and no help from Progressive..... They say they are waiting on the report from the Marine Surveyor to get back to them.

Jabbo, I hear you when you say he doesn't work for Progressive, but you guys are the one writing his check. If he keeps coming back to you with information you don't want to hear, how many times do you think Progressive is going to call this guy. In other words....Progressive is going call a marine surveyor a lot more times than say Joe home owner is.

Jabbo...I would appreciate anything you could do to help me with this mess. Why can't I get this resolved? If I wasn't putting up a stink about this you, guys would of told me to bad and that's it.(which is what you tried to do to begin with) I pay for insurance and find out I wasted my money.

I fished a tournament this weekend at Barren... I had at least 10-12 people come up to me and ask me what progressive ever did about my trailer. I had no news to tell them.

I now have a list of 42 people........(and when I say list I mean name, phone number, and address) I'm not kidding and could show anyone the list. All of these people have Progressive and are waiting to hear how this turns out. People are calling me all the time to ask me about this problem. I'm talking about people I have never even met. I have three marine dealerships in the state of Kentucky that keep asking me what has happened. One of the owners even told me if things didn't go right for me, I could explain my situation to everyone at our Classic. He said I could have the stage and mic.
This classic is a very big tournament....last year there was over 300 boats, and there should be more this year. (that's over 600 fisherman...lot of ears there)

I plan on spreading the word if I ever get one. This is my first web site that I posted on.....I plan on posting on about 6-7 more if I need to. I will let everyone know how Progressive works. Hopefully I'll have good things to say. One of my fishing buddies owns a sign company and said he would make me a sign for free to put on my truck and boat windshield. We have several ideas on what to put on the sign, but he suggested....Beware of Progressive Insurance...Ask me why!!!!....I like it.

Thanks guys for bumping up the post, and thanks to everyone who has called with ideas and support. I'll let everyone know as soon as I know myself.

    Thanks again,
    Heath martin
