Everyone wants the american dream, some people have it and some people don't. Each person has their own view of that dream as well. The have nots demand it but are not wanting to sacrifice for it. (Naturally, I'm speaking in very general terms so don't get upset.) Take the recent example of destruction with the floods in the Midwest. How many political figures yelled and screamed for assistance? How many residents demanded government assistance? I never heard of it? I'm sure there were a few but no major news coverage. How may people yelled and screamed for assistance with Hurricane Katrina? Tons! Whats the difference? Katrina had warnings and days of preparation the Midwest did not. The Midwest fought hard to protect their lives as the tragedy unfolded.....no whining!
IMO the difference was the quality of the people involved from the Mayor on down. On one hand you have hard working, salt of the earth heartland people who know what hard work is (again general terms here) and on the other hand you have people who expect handouts because thats what their familiar with. Why help yourself when the government will? Just whine and blame someone else, it usually works with the bleeding heart liberals. JMHO.
