Well it happened yesterday.. The big runs of Reds and Second run Kings finally started. over 70,000 reds went past the 8 mile mark on the Kenai headed up stream. That doubled the number in the river and should continue for the next few days.
The Kings also increased to 1600 on Tuesday and 1400 on Wednesday.. and should be more the next few days.
I did a little fishing for Reds today and YES I do have my Float and Fly reel here, not my pole and I thought I had my Pike reel.. so the result was a 10 to 12 pound red hitting and taking off for parts unknown and breaking my line cause I thought I had 30 pound test on it ... that was when I discovered that I had the 6 pound test Float and Fly reel.. SNAP is not a good sound when fishing for salmon.
