Cause we don't know how to catch them. And besides, their ugly!
Maybe this would be a better place for you to hang out.

I have not caught many of these Walleye creatures and only have one opinion. If they did not taste GOOD REAL GOOD DELICIOUSLY GOOD DARN GOOD, there would be no need for these creatures to swim. The few that I have caught fought about as hard as a wet noodle. An occasional head shake, ugly pre-historic eyes that are down right hiddious (sp), and just flat out UGLY. This all being said, I SURE DO WISH I COULD LEARN TO CATCH MORE OF THEM. YUM YUM YUMMY YUM!!!! Somebody heat up the deep fryer and break out the coleslaw. No need for tarter sauce or ketchup on these tasty swimming beast. I do know of a certain person that I will not mention his name (Steve Headrick) that went out in May at Dale Hollow and they caught 20 a night every night for 10 straight nights and he says he has to duct tape his freezer lid closed for it is buldging at the seams. I told him when his freezer comes up missing that I was completely innocent and had nothing to do with the theft.

I have also caught a few and ate a few. Other than that I'm not that excited about Walleye fishing. There are fewer locations to catch them and even fewer tackle shops that carry anything Walleye related. If you could pitch and flip jigs and plastics at them on the bank year round I would target them.
I enjoy fishing for them. Usually I don't do too well. I do catch my share out of the Ohio River, Brookville Lake and when I venture up to Lake Erie. When my dad lived in Somerset, LC, we would troll for them. We would catch a few. But they were few and far between. I enjoyed seeing your reports when you did well trolling worm harnesses.

During the night bite early this year on the Big C for stripers we couldn't keep these pesky critters off of our lines. Andrew one night was catching them hand over fist and according to him he can't catch Walleye, but I was netting them and he had me hopping like a Chinese short order food cook. That would be Hop Sing. Oh yea I reached the status of professional netboy that night and I am now looked at as every bit as good a net man as Fishincreek, so take that. Oh and one other thing Woody is right the only thing they are good for is making me fatter than I already am. As ole Andy use to say, Hmmmmm, Hmmmm Aunt Bee, Gooood.
You can..............just fish a little deeper and ON THE BOTTOM.....if you're not 6 inches from the bottom in 30ft of water, you have NO CHANCE......I have also caught a few and ate a few. This is in general, of course. AND with regards to walleye fishing, there are TONS of places around here.
Green River, Nolin River, Cumberland River, Lake Cumberland, Laurel River.....and then Indiana, Brookville, Monroe, Cagles Mill, and quite a few northern lakes............
Lots of places to catch them...........but NO ONE who catches them will TELL you how, or WHERE.........I know this from trying myself to get info.
Well said.

I'll break the code of silence......court martial me. I use a real simple rig. 14 lb test, at the end, tie on a 2 foot leader, then a #2 Gamakatsu hook. On that hook, I hang 2 night crawlers, both hooked thru the head, about 1 inch on the hook with the first run clean up the line to give room for the second to go on. Then to the last of the 3 way swivel eyes, I tie a 1 foot leader, and then add onto that 3 good sized slip shots.
I head to C-land. I ramp at Jamestown. I putt putt straight across the lake to the flats that run from the visible point, clean down to Govenors Cove. I get in 20 to 25 foot of water, and set the trolling motor as slow as it will go. I chuck the baited rig out a good throw, set the rod in a rod holder cocked up 45 degrees, then keep paying out line till I see the rod tip tell me the rig's split shots are touching ground about half the time. I keep the trolling motor slow, and about every 2 minutes, kill it, drift to a near stop, then turn it back on dead slow. What that does for me is it causes the bait to run from 6 to 12 inches from bottom while moving, and then for a short spell lets it drop to the bottom or near bottom and crawl along there real slow like. Don't be surprized if you hook up with some killer flathead cats doing this.
I don't fish for these things to much anymore. Partially cause the pace gets too slow for me and I fidget alot, and partially cause the minor fight, occassional snags, and just plain ugly fish achieved just don't do a lot for me. Course, I drive a Ford and married a KY woman too, so go figure. She's got bug eyes, but I'd never get away with calling her "Wall-eye".
So since their eyes bug out, and are not flat like the side of a wall, why aren't they called "Bug-eyes", instead of Wall-eyes"?
