Hey Guys, just a quick post to give you a heads' up on the river. Ive been going 2-3 times a week to the Sulphur Well and Camp Nelson pools.
The river looks good, kinda dirty (trashwise) but clear water. Fish are easily spooked. At camp nelson, the lock has been slow. Fish have been holding in other areas of the pool, where there is current.
On Saturday, I caught 3 Walleye over 15 inches, 10 Kentuckys (biggest was 14 1/2 inches) 4 Smallmouth, (1 15 incher) and 3 largemouth (one was over 2lbs). I also caught two drum over 20 lbs each and a channel cat that was about 16 inches. I had a really nice largemouth on that would have gone 4-5 lbs but he wasnt hooked well (just in the side of his mouth skin) and with a jump and shake he threw the hook.
Sunday was totally different. The fish would not touch what I had been throwing the previous day and it was a much tougher day to figure out. Everyone I talked to out there was getting skunked. Finally I went to hitting certain types of rockslides on bluff walls and began catching nice bass. Biggest was 2-3lbs.
On the whole, the river is (in my opinion) a better bet than most lakes if you can figure out the pattern on a particular day. If you can't youll be wasting your time.
