    Frog Rigging 101

I have bought the yum frog and strike king frogs and when rig them on the hook and throw them out on a baitcast reel with 50/6 braid all they do is come in upside down or come in spinning in a circle. I have used 3/0-6/0 hooks and all do the same thing. I have rigged them with the hook up or down threw the body of the frog and all do the same, Im trying to work it as a top water lure. Any suggestions or tips this way.

I use the Zoom Horny Toad and the Gambler Cane Toad...rigged on 4/0 or 5/0 EWG Hooks...hooked through the nose, and point of the hook coming up through the body from the bottom, riding right along the top of the body where it's flat.

Are you just reeling it in like a buzzbait by chance? They have a tendencay to spin that way sometimes I guess, but the ones I use give a nice leg-kicking motion...it's actually a good way to fish them. Other than that, I pitch them as far back into the crud as I can get them and work them out like a topwater with twitches, pauses, erratic motions.

I'm also real partial to the Spro Bronzeye frog, which isn't a soft plastic frog like the others. It's rigged and ready, weedless as can be, and a lunker teaser.

Try a hook made for these type of frogs, Zoom makes a hook, Stanley makes a hook and both have screw locks, also the stanley has weighted ones and if you twitch it while you notice it upside down it'll right itself alot of the time.

OffDtop was right on. Try a hook made specifically for this, and your problems will be gone.

Also, the Spro frog is by far my favorite - you can work them over anything.

Spro, also just unveiled - at the ICast - something similar to the frog, but with a cut away front just like your typical popper. How great is that going to be, a totally weedless popper!

The Horny Toad does great upside down or rightside up with a EWG 4/0 or 5/0 hook. The legs are the best for action and noise. The other baits just don't have the same action from my experience.
