Man I'm with you there. The swim jig looks a little different but your right the blade could add that extra thump.
Beaver still producing huh? How does that grass look? Healthy? I know it was sprayed in the Spring.

Not even sure if I still have them, but years ago I had some jigs that actually had a willow leaf blade on the head. And these were made to either jig or swim. So I guess swimming a jig is not all that new.
I always thought the main thing that made it a "swim jig" was the positioning of the eye at a forward angle, instead of 90° like a regular roundhead jig, and a streamlined head. Like Bobby said, football heads don't swim well.
paca craw makes a good thump when swimming it on a jig, have had good success with it..football seems to work fine as does the d&l...what problems do you all have with the football jig?
Just thinking that maybe the swim jig stays level when retrieved fast? I know that I have burned a few football jigs in with my 7:1 Shimano and never had one spin on me. I noticed that some of the swim jigs had a thinner wire hook and was supposed to have a stronger wire guard, at least the pics looked that way.
you probably found your answer by now but from my experience there is nothing special about a "swim jig", Its just a technique to use with a jig. booyah calls one of there jigs a swim jig but ive had some explosive hits swimming a normal jig over grass or brush. Maybe there is a certain time to use it but i usually end up doing it anytime i have a jig locked in my hand and it will pick up some extra bass that want a different look.
I appreciate the replies. I did read up some on this jig last night by some federation fella from Wisconsin and his jigs look awesome. For the most part I see the technique and specific jig/trailer style together might work a little different than a regular casting jig but not alot.
