Maybe im wrong but i dont think it looks like anything in particular.. maybe a small rodent, but more than anything its just annoying to them. i think thats why squeeky buzzbaits tend to produce a little better, its more annoying.

What does a buzzbait look like to a bass?

Maybe a shad skipping across the water, but as was mentioned before. I too think it's just the annoying factor that the bass just can't stand and hits out of meanness more than anything.
I think since they are Predators they can't help it. Kinda like a cat or dog that has to chase something just because it's getting away!![]()
I agrree with the annoyance factor and the predatory factor. Bass are opportunistic feeders and curiousity will bring them to any lure to check it out and then the feeding or reaction instinct takes over if they are in a feeding mood.
I have asked this very question a dozen times and the most popular answers are:
Baby Duck
Skipping Shad or baitfish getting chased
frog
Some form of insect like a "cady did"
I had to fill my partner in and let him know that bass don't have ears (inner ears I know) they hear/feel vibrations through their lateral line and see movement so the best answer may be "Something moving that vibrates and I'm hungry,Mad or curious"
I have not seen anything in the water that looks like a buzzbait to me. I suspect the reason is that the bass have already devoured them all. Only thing I can think of.
I watched a Fish Fishburn show a few years ago and he rigged a golf ball with a spinner blade and hooks. He then chipped it into the lake on a golf course and reeled it in. Yes! He caught a fish. Bass are the #1 Predator in the lake and I think that "if it moves in the water and is smaller than the bass then they will eat it, natural or not.
Thanks Guys,
That's a lot of good information.
