Need to take elderly man fishing around Louisville

Can anyone tell me where I can take a elderly gentleman fishing for Bluegill or something where he can real in a lot of fish? He is getting up in age and mentioned he would like to go fishing before he is unable.

I have a small fishing boat and he is located in Louisville

You might consider Beaver Lake or Taylorsville Lake ... both are close to Louisville. Then there's Guist Creek Lake (just East of Shelbyville).
Go during the week, and early in the day, and you should be able to avoid a lot of boat traffic (lake lice) on T-ville & Guist. Beaver has a hp limit, so no problem with them, there.
If you choose Taylorsville, and have to go on a weekend ... consider putting in at Van Buren ramp (river end of lake) and staying in the "river end" of the lake (to avoid skiers & such, as much as possible). Or get back into one of the larger creeks, off the main channel. With a full Moon ... Bluegill may be bedding. Slow trolling a small jig (1/16oz) with a couple of split shot sinkers 12" up the line, out in the main channel & along the flats ... may get you into some Crappie, White Bass, or Hybrid Stripers (T-ville).

McNeely lake has some new fish attractors around the fishing pier, and can produce some good bluegill. Stop by Smyrna Bait for the best info on what is biting. Gary will take care of you.

elmer davis lake in owenton is crazy right now for pan-fishing. right on the banks, you can actually pick your fish.. but you cant lose with beaver lake either..

I also think that McNeely in Louisville would be your best bet. That way, he wouldn't have to be bothered with being on the road very long and I believe you would probably do better at McNeeley than at Taylorsville. Beaver would be a good lake to take him to but it's over an hour's drive.

why not take him to some of the ponds here in louisville?
Waterson lake has some nice gills, and small crappie in it (it's a stocked lake) and is wheelchair accessible
also cherokee park has some decent fishing, and is also handicapped accessible

I'd have to agree with Mcneely lake. I've been a couple of times this year with gas prices being what they are, it's less than 10 minute drive for me. My advice would be to put in at the ramp (and watch because it's kind of steep) then go right toward the dam. There is a lot of cover to throw out and you should be able to catch some bass or bluegill. Good luck...

McNeely is definitely the closest. I love Elmer Davis, and I think it's worth the hour and a half drive to Owenton. If you're thinking about maybe some catfish, then Guist is probably your best bet. And there are lots of bankfishing opportunities. In addition to the two that ohiorivercatfisherman mentioned, there's Tom Wallace Lake in Fairdale (excellent access), Fisherman's Park in J'Town, and Miles Park Pond #4 on Shelbyville Rd. They all have bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie in them.
