All I hear about is how bad the Repub's have made it for everybody and how it's all George Bush's fault that we pay 4.00 dollars for gas. Alright I did a little research.... Since the congress has now been taken over by the Democratic party, prices at the pump have almost TRIPLED. Now I am at a real quandry as to who's feet this gas thing should lay at. Before you spout off PL and Moose and Larry do some homework and tell me it's not true, you can't because it is, then tell me who's fault it is and why. Everybody knows it's congress that actually makes the laws and guidelines we adhere to, actually the President does very little along those lines. I'm waiting patiently, Tick Tock, Tick Tock........

Yes and it's huge however if you take steps to prevent where this has excallated to maybe we wouldn't be in the shape we are in right now. That was my point in the post. Can't drill anywhere because we might squash a bug or two. Can't use nuclear energy because nobody wants that in their backyard. Can't use wind energy because the wind mills are just to unsightly. Can't use alot of different Biofuels because they are contributing to Global Warming, I can keep going if you want, lol.

Though the president has the power to veto those bills before they become law. If the congress does not have a 2/3 majority to over ride the veto, the bill does not become law.

As far as gas prices, a weaker dollar, supply/demand, speculators, OPEC determines the prices we pay. President/congress does not have that much say, if any.

btw, I gotta see those figures on gas prices tripling in the last 18 months. Was around $2 when bush took office.

No congress and the president don't set prices but they have the ability to try and do something about it don't they??? But instead this Democratic congress elects to do absolutely NOTHING. Don't you think it's ironic that gas dropped drastically on the barrel the day that Bush even made a symbolic threat towards drilling, can you imagine what would happen if we actually approved. And that supply and demand garbage doesn't wash anymore. All surveys taken in the last 6 to 9 months have showed a significant drop in oil use. In fact I think that entire thing was a farse from day one.

Mark, I think you are mixing up a few things. Gas was $1.69 when Bush took office. What was diesel? Don't think you can compare the gas and diesel prices. Also, it was not at that level when the dems won a larger part of the house and senate. Your data indicates that gas has gone up roughly 240% since Bush took office. Honestly, I don't think we can blame him for the increase.

As I mentioned elsewhere, the dems do not have enough to override a veto, so they are not as in as much control as some would suggest. In any case, what can either party do? This is a capitalist society after all.

Supply and demand, I agree its gone down. It certainly is an issue, but not the whole story. Prices have been dropping lately do to the lower demand.

You want to really see oil/gas prices drop, rather than making a symbolic threat for drilling (which would not put more oil out there for years and could likely go somewhere other that the US anyway), take a tough stance on alternative fuel sources. While gas prices are high, a number of alternative fuel sources become more feasible. Drop gas prices and folks will stop thinking so much about other sources of fuel.

I was up late last night listening to the House's judiciary committee. I'll bet that Bush's ears were burning hot last night if he was listening to all the charges they were making about Bush/Cheney breaking so many laws.

These high oil prices are the direct result of Cheney being in charge of the VP office and Bush being in charge of the Executive Branch.

As long as the GOP Senate can obstruct the passage of laws to protect the American public we will have these high energy prices.

When the GOP starts to vote for the middle class that will be the day that the sun doesn't come up in the East.

The GOP is there for the rich not you and me. Some of you guys have not figured this out. If you make under 100,000 and vote for the GOP you are not helping yourself at all.

The GOP listens to big oil and big business only. They voted so many new laws into the books that make it impossible to get out of debt and to make sure that the big banks get their money out of you. They vote to allow the business to charge you extraordinary interest rates anytime. The interest rates and the conditions under which your credit card is issued can be changed now at anytime the banks feel like it.

Bush would be impeached if it were not for Nancy. Evidently she does not thing he is worth impeaching. She has other things to get done. Bush/Cheney are gone in another few months and we will see better days ahead when we get the obstructionist GOP Senators out of the US Senate and replace them with some Good old Democratic Senators.

GOP has seen it's better days and it's going to loose big time this coming Nov.

Here we go again blamimg each party for this mess. It took some of both parties to make this mess. I am sure that there are some oil speculators out there that vote deomcrat also. I am not and will not stand up for Bush/Cheney, as I blame Cheney for most of this as I see Bush as his stooley. For some that do not know, Cheney is one of the most powerful people in the oil business and other big dollar business, he has made his fortune with government contracts, Haliburtion etc, he has had ties to Enron and other corupt companies. He is a crook period. If anything is to blame for this mess it is corporate GREED. Greed is the route of all evil and misery, the greedy rule the working people and the poor and it is the only way to keep the masses at bay is to control them with either FEAR, the terrosits are coming, the terrosits are coming, and the earth is melting the earth is melting,all this fear talk helps the greedy on both sides. Its good economics! Why drill for 100 buck a barrel oil, when you can drill for 130 buck oill?Or is it that much.a cousin of mine once owned a dairy farm, they worked thier off, and even needed to pour milk out because of the market price. So they gave it up, as did a lot of farmers. What is the price of milk today? But the good news is soon, maybe milk will be imported from nafta, that surly will bring the medical costs way up.

Amen bobby..................What some here don't remember gas was around 1.30 to 140 a gallon when howdy doody was appointed president. Gas was well over 3.00 before the 2006 election and went down right before the election to around 1.65 I think . It was around 1.55 in missouri where I was working at the time. Everyone knows whats happen since and all should remember clearly what this administration has done which is basically nothing to try and keep the price down. Greed is what's driving the market because there's always going to be supply and demand and guess who controls that? Oil reserves could have and should have been dumped on the market to drive the price down but with this bunch of corrupt idgits running the government they could care less about the working class.

I don't agree Moose. Why is it that Nancy P. and Hillary C. got up there and looked us all in the eye and said now they will get the gas pricing under control? It's controlled alright, all the way upi to 3 times what it was. Did they really think they could fix it? Do you just know more than they do?

Many Democrats including Hussain Obama said they don't have a problem with the high cost of gas. (thanks Hussain) Dingle wants it higher (50 cents!) the Dems wanted to raise it even more (look it up 10 cents!) Al Gore wants it high as well it supports he unfounded Global Warming dream. How does that become a Bush/Cheney problem? How are the Dems looking out for you and me? Wanting to raise taxes? Let me sat that again....wanting to raise taxes?
