Transducer question

The transducer in the bottom of the hull came loose from the expoxy. I removed the old expoxy from the transducer. There is still expoxy on the floor of the hull. My question is: Can I put more expoxy down on the existing expoxy and place my transducer back without removing the old expoxy from the hull inside the boat?

Any help would be appreciated.

I would think you would need a clean surface to attach the transducer again. Seems like the old stuff might somehow cause an air pocket to form and not get a goos seal. Just my .2 cents
