    barbee

    Has anyone been on the Barbee Chain of lakes lately? I have a trip up there this weekend and looking for any info on bass fishing. Any help would be appreciated. I remember a few years ago asking for help on Tippy and received some good advice form one of you guys on this forum. Thanks in advance.

    Hello..

    I just had a night tournament on the Barbee Chain and it was prety eventful. We had a fanastic evening of fishing.... at least there was NO skiers and heavy boat traffic.

    It took 5 bass to win FIRST PLACE, 5 bass took SECOND PLACE and I finished THIRD PLACE with only 2 keepers but I had the BIG BASS of the tournament with a 5-14 Largemouth.

    We launched at the Kuntz Lake ramp and we slowly made our way over to the BIG BARBEE and that is where we spent the entire 8 hours. We caught fish just about ALL night long. We were using Texas rigged soft plastics and we stayed pretty well in the 10-12 foot range and we were simply following the outside weedlines.

    We fished shallow with very little success and as it got daylight, we went in closer to the front of the piers and caught a few bass....

    Hope This Helps

    I will also be there this weekend. What kind of boat do you fish out of. I see some guys every weekekd fishing tournaments. I have a place on the channel between big and little barbee. During the day try the west bank of big barbee, follow the weed line, wacky rig a senco or any worm. Then weigh your 5 fish limit and impress your buddies....... Good luck.

    I will be in a Ranger Z20 red/white (ranger cup color). A lot of our guys are not going. probably do to the fuel prices. We may only have 2 -3 boats. We have to have 2 or not go. I'm looking forward to it and I need all the help I can get. I apreciate it. I like fishing those northern natural lakes. I live close to Brookville and it can be pretty tough this time of year.

    Bud;
    When you say outside weedline, are you efering to lake side or bank side. I'm assuming lake side but I thought I would clarify. I'm heading up tomorrow. thanks again.

    Yes... I am referring to the lake side of the weeds near deeper water as the "outside" weedline. Sorry for not making that clear for you in the first place... DUH on me!!!!

    well I just finished Sat. with 0 keepers. I could use some smore help if you have any suggestions.
    I cought several fish, but just short of the 14" size limit. I fished Big barbee and Irish. Sallow and deep. i just need one keeper to stay in the lead for the angler of the year points race.We fish for 6:30am til 1 tomorrow. Most of the other guys cought one keeper.

    How did you do Sunday? I saw someone fishing by themself in a Ranger Sat, merc. 225, I was with my brother in his aluminum bass boat, like a tracker but another brand. We went out early, 6:30 but fishing was kind of slow. We did catch a few small ones but not as many as usual. Sunday morning was the same. I couldn't get a top water bite going either, they were just slow.

    That was proably me. I blanked both days. cought serval but no keepers. Had a good one on from under a dock with about 15 minutes to go but it came off. All but one guy blanked Sun. He caught two just barely keepers and he caught them where you reccamended, in Big Barbee. I was there for a while too but wasn't patient enough to stick with it. I kept getting drawn to the docks and other areas and should have just stayed on the weed line. My own fault. I just needed one fish to seal angler of the year award. the longer I went with out a keeper the more I ran around, fished faster which was wrong. I have two more tournaments now and will have to bear down to stay in the lead. We go to waveland and Glen Flint next. Got anything for that? Maybe I'll listen better this time

    Sorry, haven't been either place for years. I heard Waveland is full of bass, should be no problem there. Glen Flint is a different story. I caught fish in the first cove just left coming out from the ramp. After that I would head for the dam area and fish it ... Good luck...
