Wow sounded like you had a ball, A few years ago we went down around this time of year and we had been fishing a local pond that has a bunch of nice blue gill, my wife's second favorite eating fish, well being the lazy kind of fisherman I left the drop shot rig that I was using on the gill. Well the rod was a 5&1/2 foot ultra light and pretty much pitched it like you did your rig I had the bait about 16 inches above the the shot and this helped with the grass on the bait and feeling the strike was easy to spot and a one or two pound slot is a heck of a fight on 4lb test on a UL rod. so fish safe and thanks for the report maybe I can get down there sunday if my son in law is off and can haul me to the bottom with the jeep, been to long with dry line LOL.
