Watch the Water Release on the CR

The TVA website shows that they were discharging up to 2020cfs on 03 August 2008 from 8am until 7pm. More than likely this was posted AFTER the hounds were released. I've learned never to trust that site or that phone message. The folks hosting that site and/or recording that message are engineers not wade fisherman.

Well what was the new technique, troutcrazy??? Will be going a couple of times this week.

I was wondering if that would peak anyone's interest... It's a new thing to me...but not to others, so when I tell you you'll say "what the heck, we've been doing that for years".

I have never fished this way until a guide in AR. showed us:
We used a #2 hook put a 3" pink worm on and put a #8 sinker 8" above the worm. Threw it out above me and let it bounce down with the current. I pulled up slightly each time it hit the bottom and got several bites that way. There were times when I let it sit completely down river from me for a few minutes and laid into them. Caught plenty of slime too, but it still work

I'm almost embarrassed to tell you it's a new technique, but for us it was and produced much bigger fish.

The second technique is the same thing you use for bass. Caught two off a White Mariobu jig 3/8oz. Threw it in slow moving water and jerk it thru the water not moving it forward much, just enough to make it dance. We kept a lot of slack in the line which make it harder to hook up, but it also produced some big fish and they both came out of the timber, which can be hard to fish any other way.

It was fun...dare I say even better than my trusty super duper I'm always spoutin' off about.

Again you probably know about these but it's cool when you try something new and it WORKS!

You can generally go to the TVA site, and get this stuff, but they have not been keeping it up...........

Nope, that's a new one to me. I've used trick worms for bass in the lake, but never for trout. I'm probably going to drive down after breakfast, and I'll let you know how I did.

You have to be patient with the bite and it's tough to feel!! I had to bite off a hook to keep from harming the trout, but I got to the hook up too late. I landed 12 big ones in one stretch about 100 yrds. past the gravel bar in the middle of the river at the power lines. Hope you slay 'em.

HMMMM! Couple of things. Trout Crazy had a couple guys with him and we caught some also. I landed 2 nice ones for me. A 16" and a 18". Also 4 others out of the slot.
Number 2. Good luck finding some of those worms. Talk to Cabelas on the phone today and I guess I ordered the last 3 packs they had. Basspro has all of there's on back order. After this post I might put mine on Ebay.

Troutcrazy, I wish I had taken your advice more to heart and taken the release schedule w/ a grain of salt. Called the recording this morning and it stated that they wouldn't be generating at all today. When I got to the river about 11:00 AM the river was a little up, but fishable. Caught one small rainbow and then the flood came. Water became too high to wade and it was a wasted trip. Enjoyed the C-river "air conditioning" and the buffet at Lure Lodge, but the fishing was terrible for me. I'll try again towards the end of the week.

I would imagine the water will be up for the next several days until they get the lake to 680. With an 1"1/2 of rain last night it's gonna be rollin'

Jarhead...I'm gonna call the Arkansas guide and see if he'll ship some of the worms out to us. By the way...if it hadn't been for me putting you on fish and telling you where to fish you'd never caught the 16" and 18" bow. Rookie

It's the Cumberland River. Trout, white bass, stripers, sauger, wall-eye, skipjack, and different variety of bottom feeders. But 95% of what we catch are trout.

I bought some of these for our trip to annual Kendall trip in October. I know there are a different color but it this similar to the worm you use? I usually stick with kastmasters, cleos and pins. I thought I would try something different this year with the worms. Also going to try a fly rod for the first time. Still have about 2 months to practice. I saw a Ky afield episode where they were trolling and drifting live shad for Browns, anybody ever try that? They caught some good fish that way.
