Thanks guys for the responses, now i'm all excited about catching some toothy creatures and hopefully throw some on the grill.... I'm going to stop in Half Hitch and get some rigs and bait, hopefully they will have some good tips as well. I've got some braid tied on a 6'6" spinning rod and was going to take it.. I figure with a good leader I should be fine.. That and a pair of pliers anything else you think I should bring??
Don't forget a towel and cooler with lots of ice!!!Separate an area for fish and your favorite beverage. Pick up all your fish with a towel for some have surprises.Bring back some pic's and a full belly. Good luck...Chuck
Thanks Rat, I belive that is the bait, I does not favor much, just a hunk of lead some hooks and feathers be it does catch them, can be cast a country mile. I still have them, might have to try them on Stripers and hybrids.Oldyota better get some of these Gotchas, silver red head, like rat said they catch all that swim there. Good luck and have fun.
Try for bluefish at about dark-thirty off the piers. They can be ravenous when they school up and a Gotcha is the ticket
Anytime of the year, I throw a 1/4 oz. redhead jig with a 4" curltail grub (chartreuse, white with red tail, or root beer) tipped with a small piece of shrimp. I have caught everything on that rig, from a 25# cobia to pinfish for bait. For a leader, I use 25# flourocarbon and double it to the eye of the jig and have only had a rare shark or mackerel bite through the leader. I never go without a pair of pliers and if you are on the jettys you will need a long handled net as everything dives for the rocks as you get them close. Also, when buying shrimp for fishing, don't use anything you wouldn't eat first and don't tell the man you are buying them for fishing as they will sell you the old orange stinky shrimp if you tell them.
Good luck!
