Sympson Lake Bardstown Update on possible closing at night.

New patrol man hired and new signs posted. So far they have only changed one rule so far and that is wake speed only after official sunset for any boat anywhere on the water. The next meeting is Tuesday night at 7pm at Bardstown City Hall building. The water treatment plant is still trying to pass no bank fishing and closing the lake at 1 hour before sunset till 1 hour after sunrise. Please come if you can especially if you want to keep fishing there at night and from the bank. We need faces and voices. Thanks.

If they continue to allow bank fishing there, I hope the new guy writes some littering tix there, that place looks like a dump!

I agree! I am requesting a phone number at the meeting to report these kind of things. I've seen everything from kids battery operated jeeps to farm wagons. I think it would be a great project for the inmates to do a shore cleanup.

Well, last night my dad and I talked about it and he said something that kinda scares me... he wants bank fishing stopped there because of the trash everywhere. My arguement was you can't punish everyone because of a few and to give this new guy a chance to get the place in order. If you let them ban bank fishing, it will go further, and where will it end? It's like the gun issue, I don't think people should have machine guns but if I support them being taken, the shotguns and deer rifles will be next. Sometimes you have to back something even if you don't agree 100% because it may go farther than imagined but I do support the bank fishing 100%. I would not have believed it would be considerd to ban bank fishing there but that seems to be on the agenda next will be daylight only then no outboards ( which should be toned down some, doing 70 down that lake is crazy and yes, I have seen it.)

My thoughts exactly. I don't bank fish but I believe outboards would be next. Having that road frontage adds to the trash along the banks. People are gonna toss trash out the window. I have seen people leave their beer cans after they were fishing, Some people! I just hope they give the patrolman a chance before making a bunch of new laws for the good guys.

a couple years ago someone unloaded a whole load of junk right by the dock, stove, refrig and bags of garbage.it's always been like that..they did a shore clean yera before when the water was way down,i walked the bank fishing and there was like 40 something bags just from the dam 1\2 way back to the ramp..closing it to fishing won't stop much more than the worm, liver containers,i don't think the fisherman are dumping the tires and jeeps and bags of yard ruffage..they'll have to close off the whole road...

well fellas about 15-16 years ago you wernt alowed to put any motors over i think it was 90 hp, a rule that had been in effect since the beginning of the lake and i went in front of the council to see about changing the rule to allowing bass boats with up to 200hp to be added. at first they literly laughed at me! until i proved to them that a 16 ft runabout with a 40 hp motor would make a wake as large if not larger than the new baass boats of today! also got fish and wildlife invovled to look at restucturing the limits on the lake and i think then is when fish and wild life took over the lake ! i remember going out with the officers while they shocked the lake to see some of there conclusions ,and back then the shad was overpopulated! and were goin to put hybrid stripers in lake to combat that problem, but i dont think they ever followed thru with that! until recently. at the same time thats when the council decided they would pump water to the river into the lake! what an idea!

i think if the council would vote to spend a lil on the lake cleaninit up to make it more appealin ,ppl wouldnt trash it! they have let trees grow all up around the roads and the dam , which will prolly cause some major problems down the road , anyhow they have allowed silt and mud to accumalate at the ramp , which should be cleaned out they should really address some real problems but the ppl on the council are not fisherman or outdoor ppl and cant apreciate what they have for ppl of this comminity! i got more on this subject! but ill quit!

Steve, your right on target there. I don't go above 20, I push water like a barge! If they could somehow get better parking(where???!?) dredge the ramp ( with that creek, it will fill in again) clean out some tree's and make it more family appealing, it would help. But with the budget shortfalls in every county, and city, there is no way they will do that and in all fairness, I can't expect them to. It's a lake to supply water and as long as it pumps h2o, thats all they worry about and in all fairness, thats all they should worry about. BUT, they want to pay a patrol guy now, pound tickets, and charge out of county folks a ton to fish there so that changes everything to me. put that money back in a fund for the lake and do it right this time.

Wonder if it would help if we organized a trash cleanup every so often at the lake. But I have to agree that the trash problem is not all fisherman. Wonder why they don't just hook onto to Louisville water and be done with it. I don't know if that is feasable or not but just wonder why. I think I heard that the lake is used for city of Bardstown water only and that Louisville water is used out in the county. Is that correct?
