How often do you chane your braid and flouro? Whats the best way to store these?
Braid I will change about once every 2 months while flouro about once a month. Storing them in a cool dry place like a extra room in your house. I also squirt some reel magic on floro. On the reel and any extra spools. Floro will dry out and become stiffer in a couple of days. Reel magic seems to do the trick though and keeps it preety soft.
I just read this on bassmaster.com. Instead of throwing your braid away, take it out and reverse it so that your using the end that was on the spool as your fishing end, so it should last you twice as long.
I often wondered how that stuff would work on Flouro. because my understanding was that Flouro didn't absorb water but it will absorb this? Just curious?Braid I will change about once every 2 months while flouro about once a month. Storing them in a cool dry place like a extra room in your house. I also squirt some reel magic on floro. I had a guy at Bass Pro tell me that braid is nylon line and it really does not go bad.
Reel magic coats the line. It makes it more pliable to me and easier to cast. Not sure if it is actually asorbed.
It's monofilament that's made from nylon, which does absorb some water, and is subject to breakdown from exposure to light and heat, which is why you need to respool mono periodically, even if you haven't used it. Braid, on the other hand, is made from different manmade materials, like Spectra or microdeema, and is virtually impervious to the elements, so it doesn't just "break down" over time, like nylon does. But it does get frayed and nicked with use, so you need to trim off the used portion periodically. As long as you're careful not to use frayed or nicked line, it will last for years, and I don't see the need to reverse it. But maybe if you do use it that long it loses castability or something, I don't know. Fluoro also doesn't absorb water, and is very resistant to uv light, so it doesn't break down from exposure to the elements the way mono does.
Oh, and if you're using braid, please don't tie it directly to a jig. Use some kind of snap or leader or something that can bend or break away. Braid is nonbiodegradeable, and presents a serious hazard to wildlife if left in the water.
Don I agree with Shawn, flouro and mono won't absorb these coatings, but they do just that, coat and it makes them slick. I use the KVD line and lure conditioner and while I don't use it all the time it will make your line more limp and have less memory it's a good product. Try it and watch your line peel off your spinning reels and baitcasters better. There are timesat Cumberland when I'm targeting fish in the jumps that are spooky so I stay way back and make real long casts. That stuff will get you another 10 to 15 yards sometimes.
Mark,
I'll try it, it should make a decent pitch easier as well.![]()
Do you guys put it on your reel parts as well, or just the line? And does it help with braid? I've never used it, but I keep reading good things about it.
I don't use braid therefore I have no clue what that would do. Yes it will help lubricate reels as well and is not a silicone base. Don it would aid in your pitches I'm sure of it.
