Ponds vs Lakes and Rivers

I'm a little confused about bass activity and water temp. I know that right now the fishing is really tough on lakes and in the rivers due to water temperatures. Books confirm that bass get inactive in water temps above 80 degrees. I don't understand why people are having so much success catching bass right now in farm ponds because the water temp has to be very high in the ponds right now. Does anyone have any input on this?

I'm not an expert, but I would guess at least one reason is that in lakes bass have the option to go deep for the majority of the day and then come up shallow in low light to feed. This makes them harder to find. In the pond, they will always be more shallow (depending on how deep the pond) and in most cases less pressured.

I think your right on with that! Think about it, your lure is in the strike zone so much more since the fish can't really go to far.

i am no expert either.... but from what i can figure is this most farm ponds are fed by underwater aquifers or springs and the underground temperature of the water is a constant of around 50 but with that flowing in underneath that forms a thermocline much like a lake when the water gets cool the deeper u go....... and in most cases in farm ponds there isnt alot of stuff for fish to feed on such as the buffet at a lake....... but i have always had good success in farm ponds fishing shady areas under trees and stuff.... or out deep.... and plus there isnt alot of places for fish to hide........ i hope this helps......
