I'm not an expert, but I would guess at least one reason is that in lakes bass have the option to go deep for the majority of the day and then come up shallow in low light to feed. This makes them harder to find. In the pond, they will always be more shallow (depending on how deep the pond) and in most cases less pressured.

Think about it, your lure is in the strike zone so much more since the fish can't really go to far.
