    Re: Fishing etiquette!?....

Night Fishing is a world in its own. you can come up on some one at not really notice,,,fishing a point, maybe they dont have black lights, we all no the scenarios.
Your case in question, which I have done, is to say. "This spot was hot last night" while the other boat cast over you line. Try to get a little chit chat going. We dont own the "spot" but etiqutte is in order. So,, you reel your line in. Grab your crank bait rod with a DD22, or other crank bait you dont mind losing, Throw over his line and maybe the partners too. Reel down till you see their lines jump and YANK LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW. Tell your partner to "Get The Net"!!!!!!!
When you have just about yanked the rods out of their hands and "OOOPPS" Realize your mistake. Apologize, cut your line and while trolling past them, ask in the utmost southern draw,,, "Ya"ll From Ohio???"

    Re: Fishing etiquette!?....

I had a situation happen to me at Nolin last sat. night while fishing an all night tourn. I was fishing down at iberia the bank on the same side of the lake as the boat ramp. I saw several boats passing by ,some stopped and fished and moved on and some I just lost track of. When I got to the point at the cut where the ramp was I crossed the lake with my trolling motor to fish the those three or so points on the other side. I planned on starting at the middle point and just as I was about there and picked up my rod I heard voices, I turned and looked to see that I was cutting off another angler.I hadn't seen him on my approach, he had no blacklights or any light for that matter on and I just didn't see him. I felt bad about it and kind of embarassed that I had did it so I went on around to the back side of the next point (sorry guys) If you had just flashed your nav lites I wouldn't have came near you.

It is like the plague, I am sitting here minding my own business and Mike pulls me in, Hens is probably home asleep getting ready to go back into Japtown Carmaker USA tomorrow in Georgetown and he is getting pulled into this. I have changed my ways, I tell you. No more getting mad at people cutting me off, no more getting mad at people poaching, no more catching all the fish from the front of the boat and not letting the guy in the back have any fun at all. I am now an equal opportunity fisherman, equal opportunity netboy and I will share all water and all fish with no threat of confrontation on my part at any time. PS - If you believe this, then I have a pet 12lb Smallmouth in my fish tank just waiting for me to get someone to attach it to my FNF rod (Bill Dance Style) this winter at Dale and take over the Record.

    Wink Re: Fishing etiquette!?....

If you pull into a cove, and someone is fishing say the left side. If you go into the cove also and fish the right side, is that considered poaching the other mans space. as long as you do not fish on "his" side of the cove. Trying to avoid a beat-down on the water or getting shot with airsoft pellets. he he

My question would be, if some one is fishing a pretty big cove, would it be better to let them have the whole cove or just fish the opposite side?

My opinion would be, and how I would approach the situation, would be to know what direction the other boat is fishing in. If he is heading into the back of the cove, I would fish the opposite side, and back off and give way if he wants to fish through. Pay attention to him and if he is on fish/ and or working an area back and forth, then I would give him room and not move near his area.
In a small cove, I would simply ask "How's he doing", Then ask if it would be all right to fish behind him, but alweays be courteous of his space in case he chooses to double back on a spot.
I have found in most cases, a fisherman will be more than happy to share water with you as long as you do show some courtesy and respect. In most cases he will return the favor likewise.

I thought that is what paint ball guns are for. A new paint job on an expensive boat will either get rid of your problem or start a new one.

If someone is fishing a good size cove, then I don't have a problem with fishing the other side and if we happen to be going in the same direction then when we meet, I will be the one to stop fishing 20 yards or more before we meet and troll out around him and drop back in behind him. My thought is he was there first so I should be the one to move around him and not him around me. If it is a small cove then he will get it all to himself. There again depends on the size of the cove and it is up to you to decide on what determines a good size cove. Too much water for all the poaching to be going on.

I let them have the spot. As I leave I make sure to go close to them as I am getting the boat out of the hole and on plane and a little wave usually gets the point across.
