    Elwood's surgery delayed

My surgery that was scheduled for today was cancelled and moved to thursday the 21st. I am not the least bit happy about this and they certainly could have handled this situation much better. We get there a bit after 10 and check in this morning and was sent up to the surgery waiting room. My surgery was scheduled to begin at 12:25 and around Noon, I asked the guy at the desk if I would be going back anytime soon. He says they are 2 hours behind schedule and it would be a while. At 2pm, I ask him again and he said the case in front of me went in at 1:15 and should be done at 2:30 so it should only be a few minutes before they take me back and prep. 2:45 rolls around and my surgeon comes out and calls me and my wife to the consultation room and tells me that my surgery is being cancelled because they are so far behind. He said that it would take 6 hours to get done (which is what I questioned to the lady that called me yesterday when she said 4 hours) and the way it was looking it would be around 6pm before we could even get into the surgery room. I questioned with the info that I knew and he said the hospital was over booked and they had no rooms to get the patients out of the recovery part of surgery, hence there was people in the surgery rooms were not getting into recovery, hence the surgery rooms were getting even more backed up. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. Plus my surgeon says he is not feeling well but he would "find" someone to help him to do it later if I wanted to have it done. Less see here, sit there the rest of the night to have my surgeon (not at 100%) and somebody that he "finds" perform the worst operation on me to date. No brainer, re-schedule and it will be Thursday the 21st. Par for the course for me and really I should not expect anything less. I believe it is much better on me to expect the worse and if I get better than the worse then it is better on me. Absolutely no LUCK when it comes to my health problems or the medical profession comes my way. Thanks again for all the support and maybe we will try this deal again next week.

I know how you feel. Went for lazer surgery on my prostate, the lazer broke down, then the doc said since i was there I could opt for the rotor rooter, no thanks I said. Went to nashville, and three weeks later had it done, and they botched the job in the recovery room. Two weeks later needed another procedure. What ***** is they would not fess up to the mistake a nurse made, and since its almost impossible to sue, needed to pay.

All this and we have the finest physicians and medical care in the world. Put that in your pipe. Sorry to hear of your delay...very strange to hear how it was handled though. Remember the ONE who loves you most has you in His hands.
    Your bro,

    Re: Elwood's surgery delayed

I actually had a coupe lines about that exact issue. As you probably know, there those that would convince us that the government should assume the burden of managing or furthering regulating our healthcare. I say to those....give me some successful businesses that the government has taken over and made money on or better yet progressively improved that is the size and scope of our healthcare system.

You see, I want a doctor who is the brightest in his/her class working on me and that's not going to be the case if his salary is regulated or his job is full with red tape....this is only one angle...there are 10+ reasons why this is ridiculous. Medicare is a crazy amount of subsidy already.

Final thought, you better have some jack as you get older or take really good care of yourself....start juicing and practice alternative medicine. I've already heard plenty of stories of how people are paying $30-50k out of pocket just to get a specialist to do a great job. That is exactly what will happen if we don't keep it open to fluctuate with the basic economic laws of supply and demand.

I think waiting till your surgeon is 100% is probably the smart choice. Keep your head up Woody. You'll be back on the lake in no time.

Man Elwood you can not get a break I'm know it takes a lot to get youself ready for this surgery and now you have to wait and then do it again.

With that said you made the right call on waiting. We still have you in our thought and prayers.

    Hang in there

Hey Elwood... Sorry to hear about the delay but it really sounds like you made the right decision about waiting. The medical system can get really agrivating... Try not to get too down over it, I hope things go well for you and hopefully we can get out on the big pond next spring... Good Luck Buddy
