Transducer Question

I hope i can make this question make sense so here goes. On my ranger, the very lowest point on the back is where the drain plug and intakes are and this is about 6 inches lower than what i guess you call the pad? Do i mount the transducer down where the plug is located, or up a little highter where the pad is. It seems that i wouldnt need to mount at the lowest point, because if i mounted it up higher the transducer would always be in the later except maybe at wot, and then i really dont use it other that the gps. Hope this makes sense, and thanks for any help you can give me.
