    Re: Exxon Mobile

If the company is sincere in what they are doing then more powwer to them but some just do it for the big tax break and the press from it. I do not think Exxon Mobile is doing this to help Africa but what better way to make a big co look good. Africa needs help we need to stop buying diamonds from them and instead of going to war in Iraq we should have went to Africa and stopped those blood thirsty power mad gangs that have desroyed that country. This nation has turned it's back on Africa for so long and they have had worse dictators than Saddem ever was but they had no ties to Washington or the Saudies so we forsake them to quote LIBERATE IRAQ. The genoside that has went on there is unforgivable millions have been killed for control and greed only and it is a shame. The sad thing is that any money or aid that gets sent there winds up in the gangs hands and never gets to the ones who need it.

    Re: Exxon Mobile

Have you ever looked into Exxon Mobile's charitable giving record within the U.S.? I think they do quite a bit.

I wouldn't expect a large, international company to only do charity work in one country...especially since that's one of the riches countries of the world already.

When the U.S. sends foreign aid to Africa or to help tsunami victims, etc., should that be spent at "home" as well?

I'll be honest with ya and this is gonna offend some of you kinder, gentler types, because I'm kind of a hardass sometimes. The Unites States didn't cause Africa's problems therefore I see no reason for us to have to pay to clean up their mess. This country does way too much big brother crap in my opinion. Nobody ever GAVE me anything I earned it all myself. First car payed for it by working. First boat payed for it by working. First house payed for it by working and so on and so forth. There are certainly worthy causes out there that's for sure but some of this junk we do is just that, JUNK. I should have grown up a 100 years ago I guess this Coombaya singing brotherly love, freedom of speech liberal crap sometimes just plain chaps my arse. Again I'm sorry Lord, and even the dang starving Pygmy's down thar in New Guinea.

I personally find it hard to help some one that for the lack of anything else to do sit around and create more mouths to feed. I seem to remember quite a few years ago some charitable foundation was shot down because they were sending condoms and people to Africa to teach them birth control methods and the world condemned them for it. I feel if you can feedem havem if you can't don't make me feedem. ANY WHERE ON THE PLANET

Do you think you'd be where you are if you'd have had the misfortune to have been born in Africa? No matter how hard you worked?

In any case, my main point is that I think it's bad form to criticize someone else's charitable givings.

    Re: Exxon Mobile

Any honest charitable act is good. I see the importance of helping other americans, however, when compared to the rest of the world we seem to already have it all.

Exxon is investing in Africa. By increasing opportunities and overall standard of life for the African Citizens, they are expanding their future business relationships and opportunities in Africa. So I wouldn't say they are doing this totally out of the kindness of their hearts, however, it can do no harm.

    Re: Exxon Mobile

My point exactally Col. I do not critisize any one or company for doing someting to help others if it is done honesty and with no hidden agenda. But who is to know? Exxon Mobile? Like Col said we have the right to question their motives. It is hard to trust a big Co like them anymore due to their political ties and there lies. If they wanted to do someting to help Africa then help us here. This country cannot help our citizens at this time much lees any one else. The lastes report show the US is in debt so deep that we cannot come out of it in the next ten years. Also if Exxon is so generious why did they not send relief to New Orlens or the Mid west.?

Does getting a tax break for charitable giving count as a hidden agenda? If so, then I guess I have one just like Exxon.

Also, it looks like Exxon gave $7 MILLION dollars to Katrina relief back in 2005.

    Re: Exxon Mobile

OK sorry for the Katrina thing I am glad they did. Yes I get tax breaks too for donating and giving to charity. I give all the time when I can afford it I do it to help. I am all for helping others but take care of your own first. Africa has had hard times but they need help with birth control, aids, etc. It is that hardley any aid or help gets to the people who need it due to the regeims that control Africa. If the aid wnet to the needy then it is great but most aid only supports the warlords and the inocent get killed and the aid gives get killed. Where is th UN? Where is the US? Like I said before we should have went there long ago and stopped this along with the UN. I guess Africa is expendible as they are not a rich OIL nation. JUST IMO
