I have always thrown the cheap Strike Kings. It doesn't take much effort or time to make them squeek. I most always throw solid white with a trailer hook.

I have used the long bill dance ones. I think I have a 15". It works great for thoes spotted bass on Cumberland but I have never caught any big fish (3lbs) on them. The smaller ones will eat it up.
