Hey guys ,
I fished Bluegrass Friday and even though Ive dogged it in the past it made up for it . I didnt get many bass of size until noon when pods of shad started breaking top . I fished a rattle trap around and through these pods and caught 3 nice bass - right at 18" . The shad seem to come up at mid-day and the bass feed on them from below . I even snagged a shad - they are gizzard shad about 3-4" long and the schools are probably have 100-200 fish in them . I didnt have a jigging spoon with me { I was kicking myself } which may have picked up some bigger fish below the schools . If you catfish I would take a cast net and get some of those shad for cut bait - I caught a 6lb channel cat earlier in the day fishing a Senko along the bank . At first I thought I had a really nice bass until I got it to the boat , oh well , I gave it to a guy bank fishing for cats when I left . We plan on heading up there Sunday to try the shad pattern and see what we can catch . Remember there is a 2 fish 18" limit on Loon & Bluegrass but I put them all back to keep this exciting fishery going .
