    Kennedy bridge.

It has a 3 ton limit and the DOT are on the ends waiting. I've crossed it numerous times with the boat. But not anymore. They say a new bridge is a must, the old pillars on this one are in bad shape. Just a heads up.

If it is the bridge in Louisville there are ten semis that cross it every twenty seconds.

I was on the lake and in a boat this year watching the firework display and at times I counted up to 16 cars on it at the same time it was spooky to watch.

Just a little. In the spot I fish there my depth finder shows 94ft in one spot prior to the bank and 105 in another. I have noticed some of the supports comin lose in the middle and one that is just hanging there. Herrington is in need of a full makeover.

I cross this bridge everyday. It is in bad shape. I was on the water last weekend and checking it out. The concrete pillars are cracking and chunks of them are gone. Spookey! It will be an inconvience to take an alternate route to Lexington but worth the wait if they would just rebuild the thing.
I drive a full size Dodge Ram 1500, Quad cab 4x4 and I am over weight by 500 pounds just stock weight. I hope the DOT doesn't get to technical.

I pass under the bridge nearly everytime I go fishing and yes the structure of the bridge is in bad shape. I heard the DOT caught the live bait delivery truck crossing the bridge a few months ago. The driver of the small box truck had to pay fines of nearly $3000 and lost his commercial drivers licence.

    FYI:
The Kennedy Bridge over Herrington was built around 1924 at the time the Dix dam was built. I have seen pictures of bridge being built. My fishfinder shows the depth of the water under the bridge near the Mercer Co. side around 185 ft. deep.

In a article in the Herald Leader back in the Spring, it said that the bridge would be monitored, but it was not on the budget for repairs within the next eight years. Has anyone heard if they have moved it up or not?

    Re: Kennedy bridge.

yea, i was going to say, its 94 ft on the shallow side. if youre on the bluff wall side at Kennedy, its more like 200ft, the old dix river channel runs under there. So you can imagine how tall those supports are. If I remember right, there used to be an old black and white pic in Sunset Lodge of Kennedy Bridge being built. It was taken from down below beside the Dix River and it was a **** long way up.
