    Question for Bow Hunters

I bought a bow last summer and have spent the year shooting. So, this season will be my first year attempt at bow hunting.

Do any of you all hunt this early part of the season? Why or why not? Any benefits to the early season hunt? Anyone going out this weekend for opening day?

Just curious on anyone's opinion on the beginning of the season hunting.
    Thanks

    Re: Question for Bow Hunters

I hunt some in the early season. It seems that bucks are a little more predictable this time of year and a little easier to pattern. Hunt water and food sources and you should see some action. Remember that if you shoot a deer in this heat, you need to get on it quick. Also the one piece of advice I can give you for early season hunting is: Permadone.

I am at the other end of the spectrum. I dislike the hot weather and have found the deer much more predictable in late Dec-Jan, esp the does. That being said, the week before gun season will find me in a tree somewhere everyday of that week.

    Re: Question for Bow Hunters

While I hunt early, middle, and late season,I normally use the early season to get out and get a feel for where I'm hunting, even though the deer will change pattern by pre-rut.I prefer to kill a buck when they are swelled up during the rut,but i surely wouldn't pass a P&Y buck in the early season.I swear I see more huge bucks in the late season though.Weather doesn't influence me much,I dislike extremely windy or stormy days because the deer will not move as much, and it's harder to hear and see anything.

Thanks for all the replies...got out yesterday evening for a few hours, but didn't see anything. I hope to get out as much as possible this year and maybe I'll get lucky and get my first bow kill.
