I believe I am in pretty good shape there. I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the V-8 Hemi engine.

Re: First bass boat - setting specs

Going to take a look at a couple of boats at lunch today. One is a 91 Bassmaster 190 SVPPRO with a 1992 150hp Johnson Fast Strike outboard. Decent condition trailer with brakes, 24V trolling motor and 2 new sonar units. Priced at $5900

The other is a 1988 Javelin with an Evenrude XP150 outboard. Haven't got much more info on this one yet. Priced at $5500.

I'll be doing some comparative shopping on Craigs List and Boat Trader.

Where's the Bassmaster located? If it sets between Nicholasville and Tates Creek roads, it a good looking boat.

Both boats are in Nicholasville on the bypass. Maybe I haven't seen the one you are referring to. Exactly where have you seen it? I drive that stretch every day to and from work.

It's on Albany Rd. Good looking Bassmaster Boat. I have passed by it several times and haven't been able to see what size motor, but looks to be in the 17'6 to 19' range. I think the motor is an Evinrude, since that is what they were contracted to use.

I ran down Albany Rd yesterday after work. Didn't see the boat. Maybe they've sold it. If you see it again please give me a heads up.

    Hey guys,

Any thoughts on a 1992 Javelin 409 with a 225 Evinrude? They say the motor has been rebuilt and has a 90 day warranty. It had 200 hours I think before the rebuild. They want $5400 That's a bit more engine than I want, but it is a 20' boat.

Remember just because you have the power doesnt mean you have to use it.A few months down the road you may want it and from my experience im sure you will and youll have it.

Here's my opinion. Wait until you have enough money to buy a newer boat (2000-2005). I would also wait until you have enough money to buy at least a 18.5ft w/150HP. You are going to get a better engine/fuel milage out of the newer engines than you will with the older ones. If you can save some money unitl about Jan that would be a good time to buy a boat. Don't short change yourself on a boat. As you become more serious and devoted to fishing your going to accumulate more tackle and your going to run out of room with a smaller boat. Trust me. Do it right the first time because it will save you money in the long run.

Just remember that the Jeeps are great but make sure it says it can tow and how much because The Durango R/T has a 5.9L V8 and you cannot tow anything because the truck is setup to go faster not to use the power for pulling like you need. I looked at a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it had 420HP but it could not pull anything.

Best of luck on your boat search and enjoy the weather,

Hey guys, been a bit slow here for a while. I am distracted with my hometown football team now that the season has started. However, I have found a boat that so far appears to be the right one for me. Going this Tuesday for a test ride. We'll see what happens. I'm certainly not in a big hurry, but if the right boat for me comes along I'll take advantage of the opportunity.
