    outboard problem

1999 Yamaha Vmax 150. feels like it sluggish out of the hole and when cruising at 35 mph and you mash the hotfoot it has a hesitation before it opens up. Any clues on what this might be? Carbs????

I would add a gas additive cleaner of preference,( I like Sea Foam Myself), and also check your plugs. That would be the easy and cheap way to go first. If this doesn't help you may have a coil breaking down.

I had a similar problem last year (or the year before) and a bottle a Sea Foam cleared it up.

    Re: outboard problem

Yamaha makes a product called Ring Free I use it every time I put gas in the boat. I would not use anything else. That is what is recommended it is a bit more than Sea Foam.

    Re: outboard problem

I use ring free on just about every fillup. I aslo use sta-bil for any water that may be in the gas. I really think my problem is something else.

    Re: outboard problem

Ring free is great to use everytime. But is sounds to me like it is the plugs. I would change them and see if it helps.

    Re: outboard problem

Does the motor start easy after the first time? If you idle for short while then
take off does it bog?? It may be a hole in one of your fuel pumps, causing fuel to get into a cylinder when it is running. It will load up the cylinder until you get going and is able to burn the excess fuel. Good luck.

    Re: outboard problem

Def. a gas ignition issue...run the carb cleaner/ sea foam/ ringfree first.....if that doesn't work replace your plugs..... if that doesn't jive, come back and we'll go through another list of check down items.

    Re: outboard problem

The motor foulded the plugs about 2 or 3 months ago and i replaced them. Is it possible for the plugs to foul again so quick? What is causing the plugs to foul?

    Re: outboard problem

I had a problem with my 200 Merc fouling plugs. If I use the NGK plugs that came in it it does fine. If I tried Motorcraft, Champion or any other brand they would foul within 100 yards from the ramp. Are you using the suggested plugs or are you using crossovers.
