Early Fall Turnover

I went to Tules Creek on Rough River Lake this morning and almost got skunked, just a couple of dinks. I was almost all the way in the back of the Creek before I realized that part of the problem was that it had turned over in most of the top half of the creek. The water temp was 84 when I was there a couple of weeks again and it was 75 this morning. If this cool/cold weather keeps up, we are going to have an early AND HARD lake turnover and probably much earlier than normal.

This will cause a great discussion the next time we fish together, but I belive that shallow does not turnover. The ends of the creeks (maybe 5-6') will not get turned over, because rain and current will keep it moving. Someone please
tell me you ideas about the turnover. Grumpy, sorry you didn't catch any fish, I was afraid of that...

EtecRanger, shallow water (5 to 6 feet) may not turn over in the sense of the FALL TURNOVER where there is a Thermalcline but it does turn over from top to bottom (especially if there has not been any rain to cause current) and that is ever more turn when the depth is 10 to 15 or even 20 feet, even though the thermalcline is at 22-25 feet. There is no thermalcline in the shallow creeks. Most of the creek where I was had a dept of 10 to 15 feet. I still say that will turnover because that shallow water. 10 to 15 feet, will heat all the way through during the summer (84 on the surface and 84 at 15 feet) then when the surface cools a few degrees the cold(er) water will sink to the bottom causing a "turnover". When I was in Tules a couple weeks ago the water was 84 degrees, it was 73 to 75 today in the areas that I say have turned over. Closer to the main lake the water was warmer (80 degrees or so) and had not turned over.
