Yes the barrells are costly, I am not a big time deer hunter anymore. I hunt for the meat now, love summer sausage, and have bacon made from it and it is killer. Barnes deer processing in Beaver Dam does a great job, also they make a great braut also. I use an SKS, that has been customized some to hunt with now, it was cheaper than a slug barrell.
