Last DUMB KY Lake Question.........I promise...... :)

I'll be down there in a few weeks. I'm an out of stater, never been on the lake. I have read the responses and any clarificaiton would be appreciated.

Is this the channel area to avoid the shallower water marked with red and green buoys? If not, will my navionics lead me the right direction to avoid trashing my boat first run out?

They start lowering the water level in August and continue through Oct will lower the lakes about five feet. There is some very shallow water in the middle of the lake especially at this time of year. Your best bet is to stay in the channels they are marked with red and green buoys. Red right return is the standard way to remember the buoys. When you are returning up stream the buoys are on your right. If you are in the middle of the lake and want to go into a bay or creek you are going to want the buoys on your right.
Since the rivers flow to the north if you are going south on Kentucky you want the red buoys on your right on both the main channel which is on the east side and the secondary channel which is on the west side. If you look at the map once you are on the east side of Kentucky the channel is fairly straight and you will not have a problem running down the lake. Barkley channel is very crooked going back and forth across the lake but is better marked. If you will look at these maps they shows the sailing line and buoys there are several cross over’s on the lake and are marked on each bank by a large white sign. There will then be buoys marking the channel across the lake but can be hard to see or find. If you don’t see the buoys idle out until you see them and always watch your depth finder.
