I've used a lot of ramps on the LBL side..........Pisqua, fenton, sugar, smith.....I was wanting to stay in calvert city, and put in at KY village, and fish LBL side.
I will probably still stay in calvert city, but drive the trace.
Thanks,
Geo

George,
I was down there this weekend and you can come out of KY Dam Village and cut diagonally across to the canal and down the LBL side with no problem at all!
I've done this several times and even when the lake is at winter pool. It will get a bit shallow, but never saw water under 6-8 feet. Really the main lake is not bad for crossing---but if you are still worried there are several places you can cross using bouys.
1) go out of KY Dam Village and go towards dam and follow the bouys across the dam and into the main channel on the LBL side.
2)go down past Sledd and look for the big white sign on the right side bank and then look left and you will see red-green markers--cross there.
3) go down the small channel to Moors and then follow the diagonal bouys to the LBL side.
Those I know are safe for sure!
GPS really helps---I love my Lowrance 522! Makes running both of those lakes so much more fun!
oh4sho!
552 rules. Love it.
Mark,
Brian is itchin' to get down to Barren.. when are we gonna plan out a trip?
Gary,
Let's do one in October. I'm going down with family to Dale Hollow early to mid October. We are going to camp out on one of the islands Friday Oct. 24th with the kids then head back to Barren.....I think....this is all pending cabin availability and permission from the in-laws.
We can stick some good fish on Barren about then. I'll email you. We could fish Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
Mark
You can always put in @ Nickel Branch on barkley side (LBL) and shoot thru the canal onto KY it would only take a minute or two, but don't run too fast thru the canal or you will pass up some great fishing....![]()
I'll be down there in a few weeks. I'm an out of stater, never been on the lake. I have read the responses and any clarificaiton would be appreciated.
Is this the channel area to avoid the shallower water marked with red and green buoys? If not, will my navionics lead me the right direction to avoid trashing my boat first run out?
Thanks.
They start lowering the water level in August and continue through Oct will lower the lakes about five feet. There is some very shallow water in the middle of the lake especially at this time of year. Your best bet is to stay in the channels they are marked with red and green buoys. Red right return is the standard way to remember the buoys. When you are returning up stream the buoys are on your right. If you are in the middle of the lake and want to go into a bay or creek you are going to want the buoys on your right.I'll be down there in a few weeks. I'm an out of stater, never been on the lake. Since the rivers flow to the north if you are going south on Kentucky you want the red buoys on your right on both the main channel which is on the east side and the secondary channel which is on the west side. If you look at the map once you are on the east side of Kentucky the channel is fairly straight and you will not have a problem running down the lake. Barkley channel is very crooked going back and forth across the lake but is better marked. If you will look at these maps they shows the sailing line and buoys there are several cross over’s on the lake and are marked on each bank by a large white sign. There will then be buoys marking the channel across the lake but can be hard to see or find. If you don’t see the buoys idle out until you see them and always watch your depth finder.
Look at these maps online and you can see the sailing line and buoys.

Good luck.
Thank you!!!
Geo is NO LONGER going this weekend.
Without any power, and a NEW roof needed, I think I will be staying home this weekend. Maybe a local daytrip, but I REALLY NEEDED a KY trip.
later,
Geo
