    Re: What about that SEC!!

We took some visitors down to the Opryland hotel for the tourist thing Sat nite, but I ducked into a sports bar for a checkup and saw the score in the 3rd quarter. 31-3? Did I see that right? Yep. Good thing a bulldog's got a flat face already, cause the Tide rared back and socked them square in the mouth.

Saban needs to make sure they're not looking past UK, the 'cats can play too.

Hey bassin_bug, you ever meet Rick Bragg in school? That guy is my favorite author, and he teaches a course at Alabama.

Careful who you hang out with JD, them UK fans'll skin you up. They ain't playing with a round ball though, so you should be okay. Still, take a seat with your back to wall. Once had a pop bottle bounced off the cranium, and it does not tickle. Truth be told I've really enjoyed watching the UK football program improve, and I usually pull for them.

Don, send me a Gators shirt, need to keep something in my boat for emergencies, and the TP keeps getting soggy.

Devils Horse, I wish I had met "that" Rick Bragg. I hope you're talking about the one who is a Pulitzer Prize winning writer. He lifted himself up out of poverty by the seat of his pants. His mother was tough as nails; I think I heard she didn't buy herself a new dress for something like 18 years so she could send her children to school.

I didn't get to meet many people who were instructors or professors if I wasn't in their class. I did date a professor in the School of Law for a while but he was about as exciting as a dead carp. When I wasn't in school I was working at my job, the rest of the time I was studying for my Ph.D. Not much time for a social life when you're digging through the books day, night, and weekends.

That's the one I'm talking about bug. He won the Pulitzer for journalism, but he's also an author. I just listened to "All Over But the Shoutin" which chronicles his mother's life.

What a magnificent woman. Not really different from millions of others in rural America during her generation. Actually she didn't own a new dress for over 30 years, picked cotton, cleaned houses, ironed clothes, dealt with a sorry excuse for a husband, and still managed to raise her sons. Today's generation of spoiled whiners could learn a lot from her.

Bragg is from Piedmont not too far from my home town, and our backgrounds are similar. The guy's work makes me laugh out loud and honest to God cry. "The Prince of Frogtown" is simultaneously hilarious, uplifting, and depressing, one of the best books I've ever read. He's obviously trying to heal some wounds with his books, I wonder if it works.

BTW, I didn't realize we had a PHD on the board, my undereducated and somewhat ignorant hat is off to you bassin_bug. Hey, what's the difference between a lawyer and a dead carp? The carp has a smaller mouth. --Insert rim shot and canned laughter-- Sorry, that was stupid and uncalled for. What I'm best at.

Devils Horse, no one is "undereducated" whether they have that pigskin or not. 'Book learnin' does not a genius make as you will soon read. My father-in-law could neither read nor write but he was the smartest man I know....a genius in his own right. He had to take a different route to find solutions to problems but he got the job done and it was always correct.

BTW There's another difference between a lawyer and a dead carp. The carp never told a lie.

Do you know what happens to students who fail at Bama? They send them to Auburn.

I once went to Auburn University, (may I borrow your ignorant hat?) for a day, but I didn't get to stay. A couple of us went, on a bet, that we could sneak inside the School of Veterinary Medicine without being seen. Luck was on our side because a prized show horse, valued at $200,000, had split a hoof apart and had been flown in for treatment. The Professor and students were working on the sedated horse out in another area. We slipped into the class/operating room and were surprised to learn that was the week to study dogs; there were dog parts covering every operating table. Did you ever see a bunch of dog heads lying on a table with pitiful eyes looking up at you? I had no desire to pat one of them on the head. I did a fast 180 degree turn to get out of there, ran for the door and right into the cooler filled with more dead animals than I could count. I'll swear every hair on my head was standing up and it wasn't because I was cold.

It was a college custom to leave something that let our competitors know their campus had been invaded. We left a Bama T-shirt lying across a dead Doberman.

Don't think my ignorant hat'll fit, besides I can't seem to get it off my head.

Dang what a creepy experience with the dogs, though I'm sure y'all had some liquid suplements to help you get over it. Should've found a bulldog to leave the Bama shirt on, but hindsight's 20/20.

Ouch! You guys are kick'n a man when he is down....At least it was an SEC team! Seriously though UG had it's defensive problems exposed the last few games. The fans including myself was looking the other way saying they are just tired but in reality they have some issues. They will survive.
