His mother was tough as nails; I think I heard she didn't buy herself a new dress for something like 18 years so she could send her children to school.

I didn't get to meet many people who were instructors or professors if I wasn't in their class. I did date a professor in the School of Law for a while but he was about as exciting as a dead carp. When I wasn't in school I was working at my job, the rest of the time I was studying for my Ph.D. Not much time for a social life when you're digging through the books day, night, and weekends.
