Water temps and the Fall bite

Guys it's been awhile since I've been on the big lake as I've been hitting the river alot with riverat12. Has anybody noticed the fall DAY bite picking up yet? I know it's still a bit early and I'm rushing it some, but just wondering what everybody is seeing out there. Any decent fish chasing bait to the surface or shallow day bite starting yet? Somebody tell me a fish story it's too dang hot to hunt.

I fished Cumberland on Sunday and did pretty good around mid lake. We caught a few nice largemouths, some KY's, and a keeper smallmouth. None of the fish were shallow in the creeks though. All of them came from main lake points and the first bit of banks going in the creeks. Most of our fish came off a jig, but that wind started blowing so I picked up a spinnerbait, third cast and that smallmouth about took my pole in the water. Water temps got up to about 77 before we left. Where we were fishing I didn't see any shad schooling around the surface, but my brother did land a chunky largemouth on a popper.

Fished North end of Ky lake Friday - Sunday and best bite was at night. Fished ledges during the day with a good number of small fish but the quality came from the LBL side mid creek on a black spinner bait after midnight. Water temps were mid 70's and there are shad starting to mighrate into the creeks. Did not see alot of chasing yet.

Starting to transition on KY Lake. We should see it right about mid October.

Thanks guys, exactly what I was wondering about. These cool nights are gonna start to heat things up as these water temps go down.

In the last week or so, I have been to Nolin, Rough and Barren and found the samething at all of them: the backs of the creeks are (or have) turning over and the shad are moving into the creeks and deep coves. I don't think the Big Bass have followed them yet, at least I haven't caught any, but they should be moving soon. This week's high temps (in the mid to high 80s) may slow the cooling and everything else but the fall bite is coming soon. I can't wait for the next cold front and cloudy days.

Hey Mark, the fish seem scattered right now, but ive been able to take advantage of a couple cloudy days 2 wks ago and we had a blast fishing shallow. We caught a bunch of small fish but had several nice ones too. the water temps yesterday was around 73-75 degrees, another couple weeks and things should really get rolling. I have an open backseat whenever you get ready to come down...

KylakeNitro Noticed your location was Benton. I have a camper in Birmingham Point Resort. I am there every weekend when possible. I love that area and hope to maybe retire there someday.

We have probably crossed paths at some point. Let me know if you ever have an open seat on a weekend. Would love to meet you and maybe catch a fish or two. The wife and I usually get there Friday evenings and leave Sunday afternoon to head back to the Louisville area.
