    Dale Hollow

I have not fished this lake this year but am thinking about a mid october trip.
What should I expect. What patterns do those of you that fish this lake think will be going on around this time. Will only be fishing the KY section.
    Thanks,
    Trapper

I'm not as familiar with this lake as others are on this board, like Elnut and a few others, but if I were you I would spend the extra money and get a Tennesse License.

Well...I'm no expert, but I 2 will be down late October for my first DH trip of my fishing season.

I like to first hit some creeks that have lots of loons and therefore lots of bait. The smallies and spots will be schooled up real good. This is were I start going into search bait mode. Once you find one....well you get the idea.

Finally, no disrespect Chub....but you don't need a Tennessee license to stick a bunch of fish. One good, well known, technique this time of year is crankbaits fished on 6lb Flouro. Also, early and late you might see some surface action and lots of bubbles in an active area. Spots exhale when they feed. Smallies are right there with them.

There are two types of fish on DH. Creek fish and main lake fish. The main lake schools will be around that grass on the flats, that is the grass that is still under water after the draw down.

    Best of luck!
    M

No disrespect taken. I realize you can catch fish on both sides...but as for me...having the full body of water leaves me with one less thing to think about. Plus I don't mind supporting the Tennessee side whether I venture over there and fish it or not.

    Re: Dale Hollow

My report from Dale, remember,I have only fished this lake a few times and it has been well over a year since I last visited.
Arrived with less than an hour of light left on Wendesday - Went out and started fishing a bank and noticed some fish jumping and started throwing a sammy, hooked 5 but only landed 1 that went about 3 lbs.
Went back early and it was perfect top water weather, only problem for me was no takers. Finally gave up on this pattern around 9:00. Went to a jig and no takers. Finally around 11:30 caught a 3.5 on a C-rig. Lost two others on the rig but never say what they were. Started throwing my only silver buddy. Hooked a good fish on my 3rd cast and broke off, never saw what I had. Went back to the rig and jig with no takers. Took out for a couple of hours and went back around 4:00 on Thursday pm. Caught a couple of small fish(less than 12") then around 6:00, the action picked up. Caught a 3lb fish and a 21" fish that I would guess to go 5lbs. She fought long and hard! All fish were jumping well and really put on a show!
All fish were caught in approximately 20-25 feet of water!
Wish I had taken my night stuff and planned on fishing after dark, from what I can tell, the action was a lot better at sunset and I would guess would continue after dark.
