I hope that if Barry actually goes back he at least makes a decision and doesn't pull his usual of voting....present. So if he shows up how many days will it be that he is actually working? 149? What a fake shell of a candidate.

Who said McCain derailed anything? The only quote I've seen from him today on the subject was, "The outlines that I have read of… this is something that all of us will swallow hard and go forward with,'' McCain said. "The option of doing nothing is simply not an acceptable option.'' (I did the copy/paste from CNN, but the same quote appeared other places). That doesn't sound much like an attempt at derailment to me.

A touch of hostility Toad, go back and read what I wrote. Don't see where I claimed McCain said he derailed anything, just pointed out what ranking Dems were saying.

Here's some excerpts from a Wall Street Journal article on the 25th, and I believe Harry Reid (God help Y'all) qualifies as Dem leadership. Interesting that BO had to be 'invited' to return for the bailout negotiations.

Congressional Democratic leaders wasted no time pointing the blame at House Republicans and in particular Republican presidential candidate John McCain after a tentative deal on the $700 billion financial sector bailout proposal blew up following an afternoon meeting at the White House.

“I would suggest that anyone in that meeting who tried to understand what John McCain said at that meeting, couldn’t,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada told reporters Thursday evening.

McCain suspended his campaign to return to Washington D.C. to take part in negotiations on the bailout. Barack Obama also returned after President Bush requested he attend today’s meeting. Reid suggested McCain’s return injected politics in to the negotiations. McCain was the last one to speak at the White House meeting, Reid said, and he “didn’t say anything substantive.”

“John McCain did nothing to help, he only hurt the process,” Reid said, further chastising McCain for calling for a delay in Friday’s presidential debate in Mississippi. “We should not let this little effort to avoid participating in the debates sidetrack this most important issue,” Reid said.

I wasn't feeling any hostility when I typed that. Sorry if it seemed that way. One problem with forums like this is that there's no "tone of voice" to help you judge how someone's feeing on a subject. That's a lot of why I haven't posted much in this forum lately. Too many strong feelings on both sides, and not enough "agreement to disagree." That, and the fact that I didn't have power for 6 days, or an internet connection for 3 days after that.

I've gone back and re-read both your posts, and I still don't see anything where anybody, ranking Democrats or whoever, made any accusations that McCain tried to derail the bailout. They're criticizing him, rightly or wrongly, for wanting to delay the debate, and saying he didn't do anything to help the process, and maybe hurt it, but that's not saying he tried to derail it. And for the record, I am one democrat who agrees with McCain's statement that I quoted earlier.

Again, no hostility here. I'm just trying to respectfully point out that I see this a little differently than you do.

No hostility here either Toad, we just disagree on how we interpret Harry Reid. That doesn't surprise me much since one generally needs an interpreter to make sense of Reid's jabberwocky anyway.
