    Dale next week.

Heading down to Dale Hollow on 10/1 for 4 daysand will be down around the Sunset/East Port area. Anything going on down around that area? Will try for bass and/or walleye. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Will post when I return. Thanks in advance for any help.

For what it is worth, I talked to Steve Headrick on Thursday and he is still catching fish at night. Not real pattern, one night they are literally in a foot of water and the next night 12-20 feet deep. One night deeper grass, next night black shale. He pretty much is hunting and pecking until he finds what they are doing that night. All fish caught on jigs, Avacado and Orange on Full Moon and Black and anything on New Moon. Not much but hope this helps. He did say a few fish were being caught in the daytime on jigs as well. Water temps were 77-79 and the fish had not started moving into the creeks as of yet.

Thanks, Elwood, for the report. I will be fishing Dale Thursday through Sunday this week. Sounds like you have to keep your ear to the water to see whats happening from day to day. I will report next week.

    Re: Dale next week.

Fished it this past Wednesday through Saturday. Saturday was the best! The overcast conditions made for a STRONG topwater bite all day. If it's cloudy, that topwater is all you need! Mainlake points that go from 5 ft to 30+ were holding the smallies...big ones too! I hooked up on a smallie that was well over 5 lbs, but it came unbuttoned near the boat.

I got on a good frog bite in the grass - the fish were not actually in the grass, but between the bank and the grass. I was throwing a SPRO Bronzeeye frog and catching largemouth. The fish were in about 8" of water. I had to actually cast the frog onto the bank, and then crawl it into the water to avoid spooking the fish. Once the bait was in the water, you see a fish make a wake to it...it was CRAZY!!! I got onto that pattern a little late in the morning, and had a good ten minutes of it, had two monster blowups and boated a 3.5 lb.

Other guys that we were fishing against had great success in the Wolf River on a 10" worm in about 4 or 5 ft of water, dragging it on a flat. One guy did well swimming a white jig around laydowns in 4 or 5 ft water as well.

All in the all, the largemouth were a better bet than smallmouth, but shallow water was the key.

There's the break down what the winner did.

The second place couple did well just chunking a Red Eye shad in that shallower water as well.

P.S. - that lake is loaded with spotted bass...good grief!
