tach help ?

Does anyone know if my 2001 tracker pt165 with a mercury 25hp came from the factory with the tachometer working..........not sure what it gets it's signal from but it doesnt work and I would like it to..............I know some tach's get the signal from an alternator and im not sure the 25hp has that ?

You would think if it came from the factory with a tac it probably worked at some time.

There should be a switch on the back of the tach with different settings, if it is on the wrong setting it will be incorrect or it will not read at all. Hope this helps.

My the tach for my Merc 150 gets is signal from the voltage regulator on the engine. You might check if the wire has come loose or unplugged. I believe on mine it is a green wire.
