We don't have the worst systems. If you want to discuss education, I suggest you spend some times in the schools first hand, rather than get your information from second hand sources. We spend the most on education becuase we educate every child in america, not only the ones capable of pursuing secondary education. America is the ONLY country that includes all children in performance test scores (this includes children with leaning disabilities, as well as children with significant moderate to severe/profound cognitive disabilities. Do you think that has any affect on our overall performance score? Yes, but I think that is one of the possitives of our education system when compared to other developed countries. McCain does not have a clue about special education initiatives in this country, Obama is the only one addressing this. McCain on the other hand wants to continue the NCLB accountability that is pretty much focused on a 50's style industrial education, and is requiring teachers to focus on regurgating set core content with little room for creative instruction and technology education that will help our students succeed in an world-wide technology driven economy. The problem is not getting rid of bad teachers, it is with keeping the good teachers. With no motivation provided under NCLB, or McCains plan, teachers and schools are only punished for inadequate performance, never rewarded. I was one of the state exemplars for alternate assessments for children with significant disabilities. I recieved a pat on the back. However, if I were to do poorly on these assessment, I would have been put on corrective action. So it does sound like McCain "get rid of the bad teachers" philosophy is not a new concept. These teachers that excel are the ones that move on to other jobs in conulting and teacher training, as well as adminstration that leaves a void to be filled in the classroom. We never reward a qualified teacher that has proven successful for choosing to stay in the classroom. We are not a financially driven carreer field, but we are among the lowest paid profession with an advanced degree, we are not going to pass up significant salary increases for other job opportunities.
Government CANNOT get anything right.............WHAT makes you think they can get Health Care right........Just look at TAX law as an example..........THE current tax regs are about 300,000 pages long.......GIVE ME A BREAK.[/QUOTE]
No, that is not true. Bad Government cannot get anything right, and that is what we have been dealing with, and if you have your say in this election - it looks like we will continue to deal with.

Just because I tend to lean to the Dem side does not make me a Beshear supporter. We need serious government reform in our state - not only with the governor, but the state level legislation (the ones that voted in the current education budget) as well. They have put our state education system at risk for falling further behind. On a National Level, Obama is proposing a continuing education system that has been proven successful in other countries. Check out some of the European countries (particularly in the Netherlands) that have tried the Volunteer for education programs - that is why they rank among the top in global education, and our lack to attempt anything creative such as this, is another primary reason why education here is ranks fairly low.
It should be easier for your children as well as all of ours to attend college without breaking the bank. That Keys money was an excellent source for this. When I attended college, I as well as my wife went into special eduation. Because this was such an "in demand" field - the clinton administration developed a plan that our federal student loans would be reimbursed if we taugh in that field for 5 consecutive years. After eight years of the bush administration and mismanagemen of federal funds - guess which program got cut. Yes, we are both paying these loans back now. Also because of this, guess which areas can't find qualified teachers? So in terms of education reform, it does not just include the public school system, it alos should include a system of encouraging people to pursue carreers in education.
