    Question Prop question...

I managed to find one of those nice logs about 6 inches under the water last week in my bass boat, it has a 1990 150HP Mercury. I wasn't flying or anything, but it made a thud. So I immediately stopped and checked things out, everyhting appeared to be fine at first glance. It seems that everything is not fine however lol. After trying to resume my way back to the dock, no matter how much gas i gave the boat, the prop would just free spin. It seems that I have stripped a bushing or something like that (if it was a trolling motor, i'd say that i broke the sheer pin). I got back home, switched the prop, and all is well. I'd like to get the first one repaired if possible.

Two questions for you guys :

One, Where might I get the prop repaired
and Two -- a ballpark guesstimate on the cost of the repair ?

I apoogize for not listing the prop manufacturer and type and all that, but I am at work and don't have it with me.

Thanks In Advance for replies. :-)

sounds like you spun a hub. if your prop has flo-torq system just buy a new kit (about $45) and fix it yourself. if its an older style prop the bushing will have to be pressed out and a new one preesed in. not for sure on cost, but should be less than $75.??

Same thing happen to me on my 150 Monday night at cumberland spent 3 hrs getting back to the ramp there's a rubber bushing in your prop you stripped, they replaced mine with a newer stlye plastic one I had to buy the whole new assembly it was 50 dollars but from now on a 14 dollar bushing and 5 minutes to swap them and I am stranded no more. You can fix yourself no problem.

Call a boat dealer in your area. Most of them have a somewhat local prop shop that they use or recommend. It will save you the hassle of trying to track one down on your own. If the hub is simply spun out, it's not a big deal to get repaired.
